New 1921 Tequila

A few changes are coming for 1921 Tequila. The Reserva Especial will now be labeled as an Añejo. The next batch is being bottled now and will most likely be on the shelves by October or November. There is a limited production holiday gift box coming with the new Añejo, which comes with a 1921 shot glass.

Secondly, 1921 Tequila is now being produced at Destileria Morales, NOM 1535. I haven't sampled the new juice yet, hopefully soon.

And last but not least, I was intrigued to find out that the Master Distiller for 1921 is a woman. As far as I know, 1921 is the only brand with a female master distiller. Master Distiller Lorena Arriaga works side by side with 1921 Production Manager, Lizbeth Ruteaga. Now I know why the 1921 Tequila Cream tastes so good!

Oh, hope the flavour profile doesn't go down hill? If it does they will be back have tasted a few that have left and come back. Let us know.



The blanco is up there for me... or at least it was haven't had any in a while.

Obviously they cant just label it an anejo, they need to age it another 3+ months which of course will alter the flavor. Not to say thats a bad thing (I typically enjoy anejos more). But its a shame that they are messing with a quality product to begin with.
Guess I'll have to track down another bottle of the Reserva before they disappear.

This is a real nail-biter for me, as I have a "thing" for 1921!

This makes me nervous too, as I LOVE the blanco. It seems like changing distilleries is a huge deal, even if the agave is coming from the same source.

Any comments from old-schoolers on the forum about what similar changes have wrought with other labels in the past?

I've been really curious about 1921 because I only see it at very gringo-centric places in Mexico (PV, Sayulita), and it has some English (albeit, misspelled) on the bottle, so I assumed it was primarily or solely for export. Anyone have info on the company in addition to what Mr Agave posted?
