Tezon Tequila Reposado

Tezon Tequila Reposado

Warm and multi-layered, Tezon Tequila Reposado is pale gold in color and aged for 8 to 10 months in seasoned white oak barrels. Reposado is light and smooth, with tastes of vanilla, spice and citrus, and a sweet, smoky tail.

The Difference

Agave - The red, mineral-rich volcanic soil and cool temperatures of Jalisco, Mexico provide the perfect environment for harvesting the blue agave that is unparalleled in size, taste, and value. We hand-harvest and prepare the ripe agave plants to ensure only the best go into Tezon. This care gives Tezon its superior aroma and taste.

Fire - Unlike most other tequila manufacturers, who quickly cook their agave for 24 hours, Tezon slowly roasts its agave in traditional brick ovens for three days, giving it a fuller organic flavor.

Tahona - The cornerstone of Tezon's production process, this traditional grinding wheel made from volcanic "tezontle" is used to crush the agave fibers and separate the pulp from the juice.

Spirit - The pulp and juice of the crushed agave is distilled twice in small copper pot stills to create tequila that is uniquely clean and smooth.

The final review of the Tezón Tequila line. As the blog has advanced, I seem to be writing that more and more. And while I run out of expressions of certain brands, at least I know that I'll never run out content because there's over 2000 expressions out there. I'm not even a quarter of a way up this mountain.

Price: $40-50/bottle

Aroma: A very interesting nose. Mild agave, big floral notes and a bit of ripe honeydew melon. I've never smelled anything like it before.

Initial Taste: Clean agave, light vanilla and a hint of mint.

Body: Medium to thin body. The melon flavor is here, but is really faint. There's a bit of vanilla and oak, but the agave and light earth come to the forefront a bit more.

Finish: The finish brings back some of the floral notes and has a nice agave punch. The bitterness of the oak lingers lightly on the back of the tongue as well.

Up to this point, I've liked but not loved the Tezón line. This is probably my favorite of the bunch and it's because this has the good balance of plant and barrel that I love in a good repo. The brand has been discontinued, but can still be pretty readily found on the shelves. If you're looking for a tahona crushed tequila that won't break the bank and has a great look and feel on your bar. I think that Tezón Reposado is a very good option.

I'm not typically a huge reposado fan, but this one is outstanding! IMHO a lot of rep's have kind of an odd wood flavor that I find off-putting, but this tastes very smooth in comparison to most, almost more like an anejo, but it still has the sense that it's not aged quite as long. This tastes like a reposado should taste - representing the balance of agave and strong bite of a blanco, while having a little softer flavor due to some aging, but not too mellow like many anejo's.

I found this on shopperswines.com for only $19.99 plus shipping, which is crazy! This is worth the normal price of $40-50 I've seen it other places. The anejo there was only a few dollars more so after trying the first bottle I ordered five more of those and one of these. Stock up while you can! :)

This has some nice floral scents, vanilla, with a touch of citrus and a little astringent (but less than I remember from their anejo). Nice balanced flavor of agave, vanilla, citrus, hint of oak and just a good flavor overall.

Again, not a huge reposado fan, but this is the best I've tried by a mile. And for what it's worth, after trying this and their anejo, I'd describe them as similar to Patron (which I enjoy greatly)... and I tell people Patron and Tezon are to tequila what Heineken is to beer - you can tell they are high-end, yet they have a light, crisp, refreshing flavor and go well in lots of different settings. Enjoy!

I find Tequila Tezon to be one of the most enjoyable tequilas on the market. The Reposado is non-agressive on the nose with hints of citrus, mint, and wet earth. At first taste their is a very slight alcohol burn before giving way to a flury of flavors including slight caramel, vanilla, and citrus. The flavor continues to change through the long finish and leaves your mouth feeling fresh and minty with just the slightly smoke and oak taste. I highly recommend this reposado to all. It is my new favorite sipping tequila and I have no problem drinking it on the rocks like a fine scotch glass after glass.

Absolutely wonderful. Just started a bottle last evening, and I will need much self control to not empty it too quickly.

Tezon Reposado NOM 1111 Tasted 2/19/07. Tezon Reposado is a pale yellow color and, personally, I did not think the tequila had a lot of taste to it. Aromas consist of moderate floral and fruit followed by mild earth scents. The first sip of the tequila is bitter and has a low amount of sweetness. The types of flavors Tezon Reposado has include moderate floral and earth. On the mild side, there is fruity, agave, and caramel hints of flavors. Unfortunately, the tequila finished with a short duration of flavor and hot, tingly alcohol intensity. I awarded Tezon Reposado the rating of C+ overall.
