Brought bottle home from Mexico.
Fruity upfront with a smoky finish
great tequila especially for something generally easy to find
light and crisp

Look: Light color for an anejo.
Sniff: Mellow to thin.
Sip: Thin initially, but building to a robust agave. Very nice ride with this tequila.
After: Long & long, more of the sip. Very consistent.

Overall: A good pick for a more serious anejo.

Bought Don Julio NOM-1449 at Costco last yr, paid $55 for 750 ml. Recently had a couple oz.s for this review from a big shot glass. Bottle is not a reason to buy, although it is complete with info you expect from a quality product and the top seals nicely. Amber in color and leaves some legs. Nice earthy nose with caramel and a bit of fruit in there. Medium mouth feel and the barrel starts to come in a bit. Goes down smooth, has a bit of heat in the finish and an oak/spice tingle is left on the tongue and roof of the mouth. Over all very nice, complete, everything there you would expect but nothing "extra". I am indifferent to the presentation. There are other Anejo's I prefer for the $. Don J. has been collecting dust for quite some time and I don't see it changing anytime soon. 88 overall.

Don Julio is a tequila that has everything going right. It is my favorite tequila that I can get in Kansas, and that is not out side a reasonable price range. The aroma is good enough that people who don't like tequila even like it, and the taste is good all around, its perfect for sipping on a summer evening. Its smooth so if you wanted to mix it for some reason you could. The only thing that I am not crazy about is the bottle, its lacks some pizazz and looks a little like a maple syrup bottle. The price is not bad for a tequila of this level, but at $50 a bottle I wouldn't be up set to find it on sale.

I love this anejo. I compare it to pinot noir for wine drinkers - it's light and crisp enough to just enjoy as a novice, but complex enough for the aficionado to enjoy as well. Even more than other anejos I prefer it straight up as ice tends to bring out a bit more of a peppery flavor.

Straight up there the first thing that hits me is a nice combination of honey, butter, smokey oak, and slight pepper flavors. Very nice body where each of those comes out a bit, with the most distinct being honey. Nice finish, medium compared to others.

This is a great value and I'd probably recommend this if you're going to try just one anejo.
