Scorpion Mezcal Barril Karwinskii Silver

Scorpion Mezcal Barril Karwinskii Silver is produced from 100% Barril Karwinskii Agave from Ejutla de Crespo, Oaxaca, Mexico. The Barril Karwinskii Agave is steam cooked, distilled in a copper pot still, and bottled after distillation.

The Barril Karwinskii (also known as Madrecuixe) variety of Agave is commercially grown in small plantations, up to 1000 plants, in the Ejutla region. The plant grows up to 8 feet tall, and the piña is elongated, which is why the locals refer to it as Barril. With a low sugar content, it generally takes 14 kilos to make one liter of Mezcal. It is also very fibrous, similar to wood, and is difficult to mash. The Barril Karwinskii has a very unique flavor and is worth the extra cost and process to produce.
