Fina Estampa Tequila Anejo

After trying the blanco and reposado, I had to try the anejo. It's a bit light for an anejo, but it's still a good member of a good line.

Aroma: The nose is agave, light fruit and a touch of vanilla.
Initial Taste: Light flavor of fruity agave.
Body: A very thin body for an anejo. Not at all syrupy. Nice mix of agave spice and wood. A touch of bitterness as well.
Finish: Despite being an anejo, it has a nice spicy kick. It really drinks more like a reposado. Smooth finish or short duration.

It's good, but the blanco is the star of this line. There just needs to be more crafting to this one to make it worth the price. The bottle is great and authentic looking.

'Subtle' is the best way to describe this tequila, and that starts with the color - fairly pale for an anejo, and only very slightly darker than their reposado.

The nose is rather weak, but nice. There is a slight smell of berries and agave, but there is nothing strong in the nose, including alcohol.

The body is medium weight, slightly oily, with the taste of sweet agave and not much else, which is a good thing. There is a slight tingling around the edge of the tongue, but it's not an alcohol burn per se. Again, it is subtle.

The finish is very pleasant, with just a little burn in the back of the palate. It goes down smooth, and leaves a nice taste in your mouth.

This tequila is all about simplicity, from the plain bottle with the gold foil label, to the simple taste. For the price (about $42) it is a very nice tequila...if you can still find it.

The nose on this was strong caramel, oak, and citrus.

This is indeed a pretty light anejo, and if it were labeled a reposado I would have rated it a few points higher on each category in terms of taste. It was still nice though. It had a subtle orange flavor to me with oak and a nicely prominent agave.

Most notable to me was the finish, which was very nice, long, and in great balance with just a small bite at the back of my throat.

The bottle is simple, and nice, but nothing spectacular.

Tasted on 12/16/08 out of a snifter. gsars1 has it right about the color, it does look a little light for an anejo. It's definitely also on the lighter side of taste as far as an anejo is concerned as well. But that doesn't take away from it's great taste. For people like me who were a bit hesitant to venture into the aged territory, this would be a great 'starter' anejo. I'd have to say its an great sipper, and I'd buy another bottle.

Initial Taste: A semi oily mouth feel. Upon entry its sweet with no bitterness. my first taste sensation was cinnamon.
Body: A very present agave body (not something I usually detect in an anejo), with hints of vanilla, spices, and fruit.
Finish: A long semi heated finish with a nice agave/vanilla lingering aftertaste.

I've finally got around to trying this anejo and it's quite good. It's a little light in color for an anejo but it doesn't matter. The aroma is very agave, no oak and very little vanilla. Taste is very smooth not too hot, just right. The finish is also smooth with very little alcohol burn. While I do prefer a more aged and oaky anejo this one was still very good and I'll buy it again.
