This was my go-to tequila in my early years of drinking. I got into it because it's what the old timers drank in rural Jalisco. El Jimador has gone downhill since the turn of the century, and I liked the old presentation better. That said, it tastes fine and it's still a respectable choice for mixed drinks.

Remember the days that El Jimador was a bottom shelf mixto situated betweem Montezuma and Durango? Those days are over. It's been a 100% agave spirit for a few year and still has the great low price.

Aroma: Fairly basic. Slightly earthy agave and light oak & spice.
Initial Taste: Cooked agave and a hint of vanilla. Basic and pleasant.
Body: Medium-thin body. Slightly fruity agave, vanilla, oak and light spice.
Finish: Medium length finish with a little kick and slight burn. A solid overall finish with agave/spice, oak and vanilla.

This is a solid overall reposado. When thinking of tequilas in the same class, I would compare this favorably to JC Tradicional. The flavors aren't ultra-complex, but it's a pleasant sipper and would make a solid value mixer as well. If you're looking for something simple at a good price, El Jimador is a very good option.

It it a light crisp tequila, would make a good margarita, but lacks anything special. The presentation seems to have not been changed since the 80's, and because of this it makes the tequila seem "cheap". The one redeeming feature of the tequila is the price. As cheap as El Jimador is it make a wonderful party tequila that no one will complain about. Overall it is an acceptable tequila that everyone will like that is easy on the wallet, but just has no outstanding taste qualities.

Tasted neat and in cocktails.

Tequila El Jimador Reposado

Color: very light brown hue
Aroma: agave with slight wood
Taste: light mouthfeel with strong burn in the finish tasted of a blanco with liquid wood added

Even with the low price point I would not purchase this reposado as a recession Tequila as it did not thrill either straight or in cocktail not very tasty. My favorite reposado at the time of this writing have to still be Chinaco, Sol Azul, Casa Noble & Corralejo.

El Jimador Tequila Reposado, NOM 1119. Same party, different El Jimador. This time the reposado was on the Margarita menu. I was met with a fuller nose & some oak in the background which carried over to the taste. Somewhat smoother & sweeter than it's blanco counterpart but still not much body or anything else. Another good candidate for the large tequila party where quality is not an issue but price is. The 100% Agave was MUCH better!
