Pueblo Viejo Orgullo Anejo: tasted 4/1/08, 8pm at my home in a Riedel. Price was $40 for the bottle and presentation is standard, but elegant.

Orgullo Anejo has a deep, rich amber color. The dominant aromas in this tequila are undeniably vanilla and caramel. There are also floral hints adding to the all-around sweetness of the aroma. Mellow and soft, Orgullo Anejo is lighter in the mouth for an anejo. It maintains a remarkable amount of agave flavor for an aged tequila with no trace of bitterness. Mild fruity and moderate wood notes round out this fine product. Orgullo Anejo finishes with an extremely long duration and just a subtle hint of alcohol.

I have to say that, for the price, it may be hard to beat this anejo. The intense vanilla and caramel aromas/flavors make me question the possible use of "magic" here; but it is not overdone and I would absolutely recommend this product.

Orgullo Anejo NOM 1103 Tasted on 8/27/07 at 2:00pm. I tried this tequila at my house out of a Riedel. The tequila is a golden amber brown color. Orgullo’s aromas consist of intense vanilla, caramel, and floral aspects followed by moderate smoke. On the lighter side, this Anejo has mild earth, fruit, and spice. On tongue, this tequila is mellow and has a thin to medium mouth feel. While the tequila has heavy agave flavor, it has a low amount of sweetness and no bitterness. The flavor of this tequila has intense agave, vanilla, and caramel followed by moderate notes of floral and wood. Upon finishing this tequila, there is a long duration of flavor and numbing alcohol intensity. I have rated this tequila at 94 out of 100 points.

This anejo is a clear medium amber color with a sweet medium aged pure agave nose. I also noticed some wood, vanilla, and carmel notes. The intial taste was what I expected from the aroma. It has a fairly light mouth feel with a strong complex alcohol burn. Its smoothness made it easy to sip but it changed going down with a long finish that left medium agave heat in the throat. There was more agave going down than on the tip of the tongue. I kept thinking smokey agave, spicy agave. Definitely not too sweet with a true agave dominance overall. It comes in a very nice bottle and a special cylindricial tube package that is high class all the way.

I can't believe how good this tequila is, gobs and gobs of vanilla, oak, caramel and the finish reminds me of honey. The nose is like butterscotch candy, and smooth as a baby's.... Just a wonderful product... my new favorite :).
