Default A sad day in the Tequila industry

I just heard that Brad Hoover of Tequila Corrido passed away over the weekend. This is the information I received.

-----

Dear colleagues and friends of Brad Hoover and Tequila Corrido:

We announce with regret and sadness the death of Brad Hoover, Founder of Tequila Corrido on Saturday October 24, 2010. The cause of his death has not been determined. He was 49 years old.

He spent is last days in San Francisco area, exhibiting Corrido and hosting his first United States Bartenders Guild meeting, arriving in his Volkswagen Corrido bus named "Selena Corrido." Selena will remain in California as Brad would want her to.

Brad Hoover founded Tequila Corrido in 2008 with the passion no one can ignore. He was the master mind behind the brilliant liquid assets
- the only "Single Barrel, Single Estate" tequilas that are "aged to taste, not time," as he would always emphasize. Along with his distillery partner, Cesar Gonzalez from Corrido's "PRASA" distillery, they developed Corrido's signature "racking" aging technique, often used in wine production.

We appreciate your support and love. Meanwhile, I'd like to ask for your sincere condolences to his family and respect their privacy.

-----

We will miss you Amigo.

This is very sad news. I met Brad and his wife Michelle for the first time at the Spirits of Mexico last month. You could sense how passionate they both were about their Tequila Corrido. Brad supplied us with copious amounts of his fine juice on the Lobster Bus. My deepest condolonces go out to his family. May you rest in peace Brad.

A little more information that was forwarded to me:

Brad Hoover founded Tequila CORRIDO in 2008 with the passion for developing the only line of single barrel, single estate tequilas using a unique "racking" technique which is often practiced in the aging process for wine. Brad developed an entire family of CORRIDO tequilas, including CORRIDO Cristalino (blanco), CORRIDO Reposado (single barrel), CORRIDO Anejo (single barrel), and CORRIDO Extra Anejo (single barrel).

Brad spent his last days in the San Francisco area, exhibiting his passion for tequila by hosting the United States Bartenders Guild (USBG) meeting. In his typical fashion, Brad arrived at the USBG meeting via "Selena Corrido", the vintage Volkswagen CORRIDO bus used in company promotions.

His drive for excellence resulted in the creation of an award winning brand. In 2009, Tequila CORRIDO was awarded the "Best of Show" at the New York Spirits Awards and a 93 point rating from the Beverage Tasting Institute (BTI). In 2010, CORRIDO Reposado received Double Gold in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

To honor his passion for the Art of Tequila making, Tequila CORRIDO has established the Brad Hoover Tequila Sommelier Institute (BH-TSI). This program will provide insightful tequila education on all things that Brad considered important in understanding the beauty of tequila, including the aging process and the aroma profiles.

Brad recently celebrated his 21st wedding anniversary with his wife, Michelle on October 21st, 2010. The couple have two sons, Grant (11 years of age) and Calvin (9 years of age).

Any word on whether or not the brand will be carried on in his honor as well. I am assuming it will but you never know and it may be too early to tell. Brad was a great guy and truly believed in everything he did and did it with passion. He will truly be missed

From the info I've received, the brand will continue and will be run by Monica Ferris and Yuri Kato.

Also his niece Sarah.

Brad had a great passion for tequila. For those of us lucky enough to meet him, you understand exactly what I mean. I used to joke with Brad that his energy could run the state of California. That's not an exaggeration.

I met Brad in parking lot in Tequila, Mexico. He, I, 45, and another gentleman sat in the parking lot of a hotel drinking and talking about his new tequila. 45 and I didn't know at the time that we were drinking the first expressions of Corrido Extra Anejo. Hope you still have that bottle Joe
