Default Reposado etiquette

Hello,

I'm new to both the site and the world of Tequila and was wondering if I could get some help with a question -

Is it OK to have a Reposado as a shot with Orange and cinnamon?

My wife likes to take this when she is out so I picked up a bottle of Don Julio Reposado but it appears that what she takes is a plain old Gold tequila.

Do I need to give the bottle back and just buy a plain Gold tequila or can we keep the Don Julio and have the same type drink.

Any help would be appreciated, she's looking forward to a wee drink at Christmas and I don't want to f*** it up.

Cheers

Scott

I say hell yes! I would not be surprised that she doesn't notice the taste difference a quality 100% agave tequila makes even in a mixed drink. And why subject your body to a mixto(gold) tequila when you don't have to. Heck maybe even try some of that DJ Repo neat!

What Wichie said! I would give her the Don Julio first and present it as a "better" tequila than her normal drink (which it certainly is). You sure don't want to mess up on Christmas.

Hola Scott and welcome to the site.

keep the DJ Rep. for yourself and go buy the wife another bottle of Gold. Just kidding, if she liked the gold with orange & cinnamon it will be much better with the DJ Reposado.

She'll be a better wife without the mixto in her life. That stuff ain't cool for the body or the brain... DJ all the way!

Welcome to the forum, bro!

Thanks to all for the updates -

I took the gamble....

We had a wee night on it on Saturday and it was effing superb. I froze the bottle for a couple of hours and then I sipped at a shot while the wife knocked it back with the Orange and the cinnamon. I had a very bad experience with the Tequila a long time ago but this stuff was the bomb. The wife commented that there was no burn AT ALL after her drink. We then made a couple of El Diablos before we went out and they were outstanding.

I'm hoping to pick up the DJ Anejo to do us over Christmas - It looks like tequila of this quality can really be done any way.

Cheers to all - I'm converted AND I saved Christmas

Cheers

The Dodge

if she likes the orange, get some Casa Noble Reposado. I do mine on the rocks with and orange peel... quite satisfying.
people where i work order tequila with orange and cinnamon sometimes, but its usually only europeans you see doing it. Im not apposed to it, but usually shots that are done like that are usually done by someone who hasnt had the opportunity to appreciate a quality tequila. Glad to see another converted drinker lol
Welcome to the boards!

Now, take it out of the freezer and let it come to room temp and try it then. Don't just pour it down your neck either, if you must shoot then invest in a couple caballitos, let the glass linger under your nose for a second or two and take in the aromas then toss it down with a slight pause on the tongue.

I started the same as you, thinking Hornitos was premium Tequila for the most part only to have my eyes opened by this place and the good fortune to be about a mile away from a very large and dynamic selection of Tequila, thank you Mario and Liquor Mart, so I have been able to actually buy alot of the stuff they talk about here (under $50 usually, a man has got to know his limitations ) and have found Tequila is quite complex. Not many taste the same from brand to brand, sometimes bottle to bottle

And...

I've said it time and again, if you want to turn your lady friends on to Tequila, AsomBroso LaRosa is the way to go. Straight up in a nice glass, the color is quite intriguing and it tastes sweet without being syrupy. Good stuff.

Oh hey, yeah.. Welcome!

ˇSalud!

very easy starter tequila. Thats what i would give people at work, when we carried it, for people that never had good tequila before. Easy to drink, a little floral with a touch of sweetness (3 mo btw)

.....but not nearly as good as the "all natural " pink hue and smooth agave flavor of El Mante Pasion.....right Darren?

Happy Holidays!
