There so much to like about a brand like Republic. Unique bottle, reasonable price and a good distillery (my bottle is NOM 1457). The blanco has a very natural taste reminiscent of El Tesoro with grassy notes and is well balanced. The green olive/vegetal notes have grown on me, but that review was nearly 300 reviews ago so it's safe to say that I've had time to appreciate certain aspects that maybe I hadn't before. Enough about the blanco, let's dive into this anejo...

Price: $40/bottle

Aroma: A fairly faint nose with nice cooked agave, musty aspects and oak. I'm getting some faint fruit as well.

Initial Taste: Cooked agave and light vanilla and oak.

Body: The body has great oils and is very complex. The agave is very present throughout and the flavors from the blanco emerge as well. There's grassy/vegetal notes and light pepper that combine nicely with the sweeter barrel aging flavors.

Finish: The finish has some mint, pine, oak and pepper. It lingers nicely with a light hint of musty vanilla sweetness and a hint of bitterness that is a bit like dark chocolate.

If you like the blanco, you'll like the anejo. It's not overly sweet and really still has the biggest focus on the agave aspects more than the barrel. Lots of complexity and balanced throughout. If you are looking for a lowland anejo that still has lowland agave flavors, you should definitely check out Republic Anejo. It's definitely well priced for what you get in the very unique bottle.
