Alma has been a favorite value brand of mine with their blanco and reposado. For $30 and under, it's one of the best lines you can fine. I was very much looking forward to trying the anejo and, well...here it is...

Aroma: A very woody agave nose with hints of fruit and caramel.
Initial Taste: Cooked agave, vanilla and spice.
Body: A thick body with heavy notes of oak. Hints of fruit, baking spices and pepper are present too.
Finish: The oak notes turn into a nice dark chocolate finish with cinnamon spice. The linger doesn't last too long, but is long enough to make you happy.

Alma anejo is a very nice tequila for under $30, but I think that I prefer the blanco and reposado better. It's really a fantastic line of tequilas and can compare with others in a much higher price category. The bottles look great and the juice inside is high quality. Get any of them and you won't be disappointed.

Purchased at Ramirez Liquor for 29$.. A great value for a very decent anejo...A good tequila, not great IMHO, but a good value.

Aroma: A nice woody, caramel aroma.
Initial Taste: A semi oily mouth feel. There is a slight bitterness upon entry. Initial taste of wood/agave.
Body: A good anejo body. Full of spice, cinnamon, cooked agave and wood.
Finish: A lightly heated finish of medium duration with a cinnamon agave lingering.

Purchased Feb/2010, paid $30 online. Color is a rich amber, leaves long legs and some tears. Light subtle nose, mostly agave/floral. Moderate to thin mouth feel, settles and holds nicely. Very smooth on the way down, not much heat, but just a slight flash when complete. Leaves a sight oak/agave taste in the mouth and slight numbing on the tongue if you repeat the process unabated. The bottle is tall and square, on a side note, the cork has started to come apart some chaffing into the bottle. I did not deduct for this. For the $, this is a hard anejo to beat. Lacks some personality, but I prefer this (Alma) to Corzo if you are looking for smooth and easily drinkable, its as smooth, tastes better, and much cheaper. A win, win.
