Default New Zealand

Now that I'm living down under, it was important to find anything that had more than 2 different types of tequilas. Luckily for us, we found something. The Mexican Cafe is a restaurant and bar located in the city center of Auckland just off the Sky Tower. They have the largest selection of tequila I found after traveling 15 months in Australia and New Zealand. That numbering nearly 100. The food is ok and the atmosphere seems nice. I would go more for the drink than the food honestly. They have another location in Christchurch that I've been told has a larger tequila selection. But we haven't been there. So thank god there's some place we can go. If you find yourself in this part of the world and you're missing some spirits, try here.

I think I might have sold a few bottles to the person who owns the Mexican Cafe restaurant. I will have to go back through my emails and see if it is the same.

I visited Auckland and Queens Town a few years back and fill in love with New Zealand. I also was unable to find any tequila worth drinking, but there was plenty of great wine and I even tried Vodka at the bar made out of ice in Queens Town, which was different.

Ahhh, yeah, the bar made out of ice. I haven't been to Queenstown but there's one here in Auckland. I think it's called 5 below. The entire bar, the tables, chairs, everything is made of ice. It's mainly a vodka bar but I think they have other spirits. I haven't been to it but my partner has. The glasses they serve the drinks in are even completely made of ice. I think they keep the temp in the room at a constant -5 C to maintain the room. It's not too big and apparently you can only go in for 20-30 minutes at a time.
They suit you up in cold weather gear and the entry fee includes a drink. I think it's a little pricey but I forget. Where else are you going to find something like that though?

PS Just found the website, it's called Minus 5. And hey, there's one in Vegas. I didn't know that.... http://www.minus5experience.com/

Found another smaller tequila bar in Auckland the other day. We went to try it out this past weekend. It's called Little Mexico Cantina. They don't have a website. They're located on Wellesley street just off Queen in the city center, practically across the street from the Civic. It was smaller than the Mexican Cafe but was still nice. Food was good and they had an alright selection of tequilas. Highlights would've been Cuervo Familia Reserva Anejo, two Casa Nobles and Hurredura Supreme Selecction. I'd guess they had about 20-30 different kinds altogether. Nice place. We'll probably go back there.
I notice a lot of people have read this thread and was wondering, are there really some other tequila drinkers down here in NZ I haven't run into? Just curious.
