Default Margarita

My folks are throwing a huge Mexican fiesta to celibrate my Marriage (we are gettting married in Puerto Vallarta) and they want to serve Margaritas. They want to serve a decent tequila but not a top shelf one. This is going to be a huge party with about 100 people. Any suggestions on a 100% agave Reposado and Blanco? Thanks!

Something that is easily available in tourist areas and is priced pretty good, Don Roberto. Both the blanco and repo will make a great margarita. Look for it at the grocery store as it will cost half as much than the DR outlet shops and tequila stores.

Try Sotol Hacienda De Chihuahua for a unique margarita. Costing about 24.00 a 750ml bottle which is the blanco. Its 100% natural and very delicious. Sotol is very similar to tequila and you can make an awesome Sotolrita . Just check out http://www.sotol.com

1800, Hornitos, Cuervo Traditional, Sauza Tres Generationas, Milagro, Caesar Monterrey make decent margaritas but if you want a very tastefully made margarita you may have to up your pricing just a bit. If you were to spend 35-45.00 a bottle there would be a lot more choices. But for the taste and value, Sotol HDC is a great purchase and a personal favorite when I'm low on budget. The reposado and anejo are also priced under 35.00 so all around they have a great line and to a novice, you wouldnt know it wasnt tequila. Its a good convorsation piece as well.

Be sure to grab from Agave Syrup at Target or a local nurtition store. Its a great organic sweetner made from the same plant your tequila comes from! Please done settle for a mixto or Patron, as they make decent margaritas...you end up paying for the brand and not the contents. Let me know a price range and I'd furthur assist you....and with ideas to spice the margaritas up cost effectively and make them more festive for your occasion. Good luck!

Sotol HDC Blanco will run you about 25.00/750ml. If you can make your purchase now, head to shoppersvineyard.com and buy up the last of the Fina Estampa. They are marked down to at least 1/2 price now. The reposado and anejo are generally at least 40.00+ and they have both for under 25.00. The bottles are in very limited supply though so get them ASAP. LunAzul is a new tequila that is 100% Agave, it should run you about 21.00/750ml and is very good for the money. Like I said before....Caesar Monterrey Blanco, Milagro Blanco, and 1800 Blanco will all make great margaritas for under 25.00.

Check out the thread I posted about adding stuff to a margarita for some unique ideas like Cucumber, Honey Dew Melon....etc. And some internet searching can come up with some neat stuff as well.

I really like Cuervo Traditional for my day to day mixing needs. It has a real nice flavor in margaritas. I believe it's usually around $27 a bottle.

new to the board, been drinking good tequila for 30 years. we used to buy Herradura down in Nogales for 8 bucks a liter, when it hit 10 bucks we were floored.
tastes have changes a bit since then.
for margs, I like Cassadores reposado. have never seen the agave syrup, but we use Madrilena jarabe natural - a natural sweetener made from fruits, we get it in Mexico.
contrary to many folks, I like grand marnier rather than cointreau or triple sec.
everyone's tastes are different. I also have fallen in love with using pomegranite juice
in my margs. migration from mango, papaya and guava, and other tropical fruits.
