Default Alma de Agave

I bought a bottle of the reposado at a local store, not knowing anything about it at the time; I thought the bottle was cool and at a good price for $25. It's from NOM 1509.

This is a very hearty repo. It has a somewhat earthy nose, but mostly lots of sweet, cooked agave. It's a very rich, fragrant repo. The taste is exactly like the nose. It has the taste of heavy, sweet, roasted agave (but not smokey), with no burn at all. The finish is smooth with only a brief, barely detectable burn. There is a lingering oily taste that coats the mouth, but IMHO, it is a very pure tequila flavor without any enhancement.

For a tequila-drinking lumberjack type, this could be drank all night. For those with a lighter palate, it might get old after a glass or two. It adds quite a bit of flavor as a mixer as well.

For the price, this was a winner. The anejo was only $30 as I recall, so I might go back and buy the entire flight.

I've really liked the Reposado, I would recommend it to anyone.

I have tried all three now, and they are all good. They are very smooth with only minimal burn, and have a good natural agave flavor. The anejo is very dark and bold. These are not dainty or light, but as I mentioned in my original post, they are hearty.

For the price I paid, you can't go wrong. The anejo was $28, and of course the others were each a few bucks cheaper. Tall, square, attractive bottles made of good quality glass, with a little green ribbon tied around the neck - nice marketing touch for the ladies.

I have only seen this in one local store - a big discount store. It will be interesting to see whether it shows up in other stores, and at what price. So far, it is really hitting that sweet spot of price and quality, similar to Pueblo Viejo IMHO, except with a stronger flavor. The blanco and repo are excellent mixers, and the repo and anejo are good bargain sippers - something to work in between tasting your premium sippers.
