Bad DJ 1942 lot?

I know very little about tequilas but on a trip to Virginia I happened to taste a tequila that was fantastic. It was very mild and faintly sweet and fruity. I was told it was DJ 1942. When I got home I purchased a bottle for $130.00, but when I tasted it I was very disappointed. It tasted like cheap tequila. The importer, Diageo, has since refunded my money. (Don Julio does not respond to e-mails.)

Could this have been a bad lot? I purchased the bottle on 3-18-2011. Lot number L110350787w. The lot number was written on the back of the transparent barcode label and can be seen if held up to a light.

I would really like to experience that taste again, but now I'm afraid buy it again. Has anyone else had this problem?

I would not be apprehensive about Don Julio 1942. Over the years it has been a very consistent Anejo - one which many reviewers have thought to be an extremely well balanced product and a certainty to be very agreeable to newcomers. Its high price is the only issue.
I bought two bottles from Shoppers Vineyard recently (at $81 if I remember correctly) and gifted one to a very good friend. After sampling it, he and his wife pronounced it to be the very best that they had ever tried. The lot # was different - L102380917w. If there is a problem with your noted lot number, at least you know it now. I suggest that you give it another try.
