It retails for $185 in Western massachusetts. But that's too high for me.
For $100 I can get CNSBA which I enjoy quite a bit more. For $80, however, I would probably pick up a bottle. I find it to be a real good XA, but I can't say it stands out, especially for its usual retail price. |

IMHO...for that price...BUY IT!
I remember being turned on to a very small sampling at a friend's bar and I thought that it was a very nice XA. It's a 5 year if I remember correctly? I must say that I don't think it would have been quite as nice if I had to shell out full retail price for it, however for $79.99, that would be a no brainer for me! If you enjoy more intense caramel and vanilla notes then this would be a nice choice. The bottle is a 'unique' presentation as well! If you do pull the trigger, let us know your thoughts.

The store is here in Nashville. I opened the bottle last night and took a small sampling. It was a little hot, so I decided to let it mellow for awhile with the cork out, and will try it again tonight with my tasting buddy, my neighbor. So far I can say there is some serious wood in the nose with undertones of caramel. I'll post more later after my second tasting tonight.

Not intending to hijack the thread, but I will be in Nashville in the beginning of May to pick up my new car (Staying in Nashville but picking up the car in Bowling Green).
Any recommendations for restaurants or stores for good tequila? Thanks. Robert |

I haven't been there yet myself, but I've heard they have great margaritas and a good tequila selection. If you have time to stop and visit, send me a PM! I have a friend flying in from Stockton that will hopefully be bringing me some Fortaleza. If she doesn't come through for me, maybe I could talk you into it.

I had a good tasting of the Asombroso 5 yr XA tonight. Lots of caramel and oak in the nose; I was picking up on charcoal within the oak. The taste had more caramel - I will say burnt caramel - with a little spice. The body was actually pretty light for an XA. The finish was smooth with minimal burn - mostly pepper as opposed to alcohol - and more charcoal. There was a lingering back-burn in the nose on exhale.
I wouldn't pay the MSRP of $200 for this, but for $80 this is a unique tequila with tons of character and complexity. I will probably go back and purchase an extra bottle at the special price. |
