Default There's a first time for everything...

I was over a friend's house last night and he pours me some Siete Leguas Blanco. I notice that his snifter was filled with something much darker so I ask him if he's drink anejo. He tells me that it's half blanco, half anejo.

I cringed, but he claims it's much more complex that way because you get the heavy flavors of agave with tons of woody, caramel notes. I didn't try it. I was in my usual blanco mood. Has anyone every encountered this before?

I believe it, heck most distilleries blend to get a more consistent flavor profile.

Makes sense that mixing ages will balance it out between wood and agave. IMHO.

Milagro Romance sells the idea of mixing there Anejo and Reposado.

I got a small oak cask for my birthday one year and now I age cheap blancos in oak barrels (must be 100% agave) to make my own anejo. However, my first experiment was to take 4 anejos that scored poorly in my first exclusively anejo tasting; 2 were two balnd, 2 were two harsh. I mixed these in equal portions and added 50% more cheap blanco. The mix alone was quite good. After a year of aging I liked it even more.

I say, go for it! Keep an open mind, a sip wouldn't hurt of your friend's offer. After all, how many of your friends outright reject your kitchen experiments.

Oh, he didn't offer. He knows I like blancos. I would've tried it if I was in the mood. Though, I'd rather just drink a reposado than mix a blanco and an anejo.

Haha...before I learned about cooking, I had a lot of so-called kitchen experiments... now my skills are much more refined.

I've got a bottle of El Capo Silver that I'm thinking about mixing with and añejo or repo. Some really foul stuff that I'm having trouble drinking. Anyone else tried this blanco? Any suggestions on something to blend half and half with to make it one of these "better" hybrids?

I tried the El Capos, I don't care for them. The repo was a tad better than the anejo, but neither were great. Their Extra Anejo tasted like nail poish remover mixed with isopropyl

It would be a shame to ruin another tequila by mixing it with the El Capo. Maybe drop some jalepenos, chilis or chipotles in there for a couple days and use it as a marinade.

1tequila2... if you don't want to use it in margaritas, infuse it with some flavor for a few days, strain it and drink it on ice to lessen the harshness. I did this with habeneros and cabo wabo and I could actually stand it.

Dunno why I never thought of trying this "mix idea" before... I think I'll do some experimenting and post about it here.
