Initial Taste: Lots of caramel and butterscotch on the entry. Not overly sweet. Very nice.
Body: A nice medium body for an anejo. Not syrupy, but thick enough to tell you that it's been aged. A lot of flavors working together. It takes a lot of sips to catch them all: Vanilla, Butterscotch, Toffee, Fruit, Oak, Baking spice, light cinnamon.
Finish: No burn and a bit of a muted finish. For 5 year aged, I'm not expecting spicy, but I was expecting more. Extra smooth.

What hasn't been said about the Asom Broso bottles already. I got it for $85 at the Tequila Garden (Thanks tequila.net for the banner ad), but I've seen it as high as $250...more often around $200. This is a great tequila to be savored.

Initial Taste: Earthy agave & oak.
Body: Thin body for a tequila that has been aged for 6-10 years. However since all of their tequilas are in new, uncharred white woak barrels, it yields a very different profile than many tequila. The body is full of agave and spice with the right amount of oak to make it smoother.
Finish: Very similar to the rest of the line. The right balance of wood and agave/spice to remind you that it is tequila. Very smooth finish with no burn. The finish is really smokey with the emphasis on the wood (which you would expect from an XA).

The entire Toro de Lidia line is consistent with what it should be. The right amount of earth for a lowland without it being too overpowering and muting the agave. The aging is done correctly in all of the expressions so that the correct balance is found. The bottles are all classy, but simple.

Best of all, the price is amazing for all of them. This was purchased at Mission for $29.99. Go get the whole line!

Aroma: A Baking spice and nutty aroma.
Initial Taste: Sweet vanilla with compliments of nutmeg and cinnamon.
Body: The wood and spices mix really well with the nutty flavor in a medium-thick body that coats the tongue.
Finish: A nice strong finish that has a linger that reminds me of Nutella. A really smooth and sweet finish with just enough spice linger to make it nearly perfect.

I'm shocked that I'm the first person to review this. Go out an get some of this stuff. This is what an extra anejo should taste like.

As the winner of many competitions as best in show, my expectations were high and they were met and exceeded.

Aroma: Nose of Caramel, Agave, Oak and Spice.
Initial Taste: Sweet Caramel and light ripe fruits.
Body: Thick/rich body that coats the mouth with spices. You can really taste the complexity that came from aging in double barrels, but it's a nice balance of sweetness, fruit, chocolate and wood.
Finish: So smooth. No burn at all. It finishes like silk. No burn, but a nice agave spice that is still there when most 5 year aged tequila lose that property.

This may be my new favorite tequila. It's really THAT good.

Th Real was number 5 in a flight of 6 and immediately followed the 1942. The anticipation was building after affirming my love for 1942. The color was not as dark as many extra anejo's (Which I tend to prefer assuming not as much oaking) Going in for that first whiff I was super excited and then..... Let down, The nose had very little complexity, some agave, a little earth but not much else. The initial taste was about the same just not a bunch there. One thing that did stand out was that this was the smooooothest tequila I had ever tried, a buttery smooth liquid around my tongue and mouth. The finish was adequately long lasting but again not really anything that was going to keep me coming back. Presentation very nice, a friend of mine seemed to think the original silver application to this bottle years ago was silver (not sure if anyone can confirm or deny) it is now plastic but looks pretty good.
So this tequila was a real dissapointment for me, the 15 bucks I spent on the tasting saved me over 300 because I was going to buy a bottle one day. Now i know that my money is much better spent on the 1942.

That said I have never enjoyed the nose of any tequila/ wine more than the nose on this. The nose was soooo complex with loads of cherry, strawberry and dried fruits. It was truly hard to pull this down away from my nose. The intial taste was a bit disappointing for me as I am not a huge oak/smoke fan (if I was I would probably drink a lot more Scotch than Tequila) and there seemed to be a lot of it, I actually had a hard time pulling out much else. The body was heavy and not as complex or enjoyable as the nose. The finish had good length and was not fairly smooth. The presentation is very nice on this bottle, I still like the presentation on Cabo Uno better but not by much. All in all I know there will be people out there who love this Tequila and as I said the nose is amazing, the style is just to heavy on some components for me and so the overall enjoyability came down.

Very dark rich looking extra anejo, initially the nose has a tonne of caramel, however once the initial whiff is taken in there is a finishing aroma of smoke/ashpalt, though not unpleasant it kinda hits you differently. As you expect the intial taste has the same caramel and smokey palate, with a little hazelnut as well. The body and finish are very pleasant. overall enjoyable however on the pricy side, the bottle is nice, not amazing, however the closure is above average

This juice has been aged for a little over four years in French oak, and it definitely shows. The aroma is fruity and woody like a champagne cognac, and there is little to no agave present on the nose. The initial taste is dry and satisfying, with hints (read: HINTS) of cooked agave showing through while slowly developing into rich flavors of wood, spice, and dark fruits. The finish is long and really quite fantastic with strong notes of vanilla.

All in all, this is a great drink, but I don't think I'd ever buy a bottle. First of all, this doesn't taste like tequila to me. I'm not a agave purist and I certainly don't mind extra anejos (they're some of my favorite), but this one takes the aging a bit too far in my opinion. But that's not to say you shouldn't at least try it yourself.

If I want cognac, I can find much better for less than $300.

Aroma: caramel, vanilla, orange, brown spices (cinnamon, clove?)
Initial taste: soft, satiny, and sweet, building to a medium heat.
Finish: warm, sweet, dominated by vanilla, ending in a woody sharpness. Long.

Overall, this is a very fine super anejo. I cannot justify the price, however, when compared to top flight anejos like Riazul. But, if you want to spend the money, it's darn good, and a nice change from the usual.

Tasted at Juan's Mexican Cafe and Cantina at my 55th Birthday celebration. A "Real" treat to finally try but this without buying the whole bottle because I was disappointed by this tequila. I think everyone holds this tequila in high regard based on the price and presentation but for me it wasn't mind blowing at all. Pretty much par for the añejo course. Nice, but all around ordinary. I expected it to be the high point of my evening but the friends, family, and the hosts and crew at Juan's made this the very special Birthday it was. I've been wanting to try this Extra Añejo for years but I came away thinking "what a great presentation". Some heat and agave bite, but little in the way of body or initial taste and I can't even recall the aftertaste as memorable. When I first got the glass in hand, (a nice $35.00 pour in a highball glass) I was thinking where's the nose? First sip told me this was a nice effort but not what I'd been dreaming about. Buy DJ 1942 all day over this one. A reasonable tequila selection (best around here) and Juan will make you his special killer fresh margarita on the rocks with your choice of tequila.
Always excellent service, a great time, and tasty food at Juan's

I was really disappointed. ON the nose I got tonnes of petroleum product with a little licorice and pepper and just a touch of caramel. The initial taste was similar to the nose but mucho Oak. The body was complex yet I didn't really enjoy it. Finish super long..... one of the longest I have yet experienced. It actually has a load of black licorice to finish. This has sat in my cupboard for over a year now and I continually avoid it so I really don't enjoy it that much. I looked at the price and it was over 100$ cdn, I can think of many tequilas I like more for the price.
Presentation is nice but nothing special. I actually like the blanco presentation the same for much cheaper ( and its one of my favorite blancos).

I would put this in a similar family as the Clase Azul tequilas. Fairly sweet and full of carmel flavor that transforms as the bottle stays opened throughout the night. Not to thick on the glass, however the initial aroma is very inviting. Tried this at a tequila bar in Boston, MA - of all places. Available in my home, San Diego, CA for about $80/bottle. The flavor stayed with me, even after trying other tequilas later. This tequila is definitely going into my list of top 5 tequilas. When I get home, I will be adding a bottle into my collection to enjoy with friends.

Initial taste: Sweet, wood and vanilla come through first.
Body: There's agave hiding in there somewhere. Some complex flavors of wood, vanilla, and spice.
Finish: It is definitely chocolate-like. The finish is the best part of this tequila, although it is a tad too hot for what I expected.

Interestingly enough, this is my least favorite showing from the Casa Noble line, although that's not saying much because their other tequilas are outstanding. Overall, I wouldn't mind having this again, but I wouldn't make a pilgrimage to find it.

Initial taste: Sweet and inviting.
Body: Wood, vanilla, fruit, and agave.
Finish: Long finish with wonderful complexity. Wood gives way to agave that gives way to vanilla, then fruit, then spice, and so on. You can sit there for five minutes just reflecting on all the flavors before you remind yourself that there's more in the glass (if you're lucky!).

Hefty price tag, but fantastic.

Sin Rival extra anejo is made the traditional way in brick ovens and the agave is cooked for about 50% longer than traditional tequilas; it shows in the flavor profile.

Nose: Floral, cooked agave and wood up front. Grass and fruit in the background.
Initial taste: Semi-sweet with no bitterness.
Body: Medium bodied with good color and richness. Oil is well balanced and allows the flavors to develop on the palate.
Finish: Wood and agave fade to dry fruit, floral, grass, and spice notes.

This is an extra anejo that truly celebrates the agave flavors. Tasted side-by-side with the Sin Rival blanco, you can see that the tequila remains largely the same, just with increased complexity and flavor -- the agave is never hidden. I think that's something to be commended, especially with a tequila that is this smooth, this old, and this tasty.

I found it for $80, and I feel that's a pretty decent considering I prefer it to some extra anejos that are more than twice the price, but it is very difficult to acquire (especially if you just want to taste it).

Initial taste: Surprisingly neutral and quite earthy.
Body: Semi-oily, though not as rich as you might expect for an extra anejo. Agave is ever present, with caramel and spice lingering against a wood background.
Finish: Floral and fruity with a wood fade.

Exquisitely smooth, though it drinks more like a younger spirit. All-in-all, quite delicious and a favorite of many.

Nose: Fruit, agave, wood, and mild hints of vanilla and cinnamon.
Initial taste: Sweet on entry and no bitterness.
Body: Velvety and fruity, with earth notes following with agave and vanilla.
Finish: Long and smooth. No heat. The fruit and the floral notes fade to agave and wood, which fade to vanilla and spice that linger for a very long time. Wonderfully complex.

A treat!

Aroma: Flan-like caramel and custard. A bit fruity. Very rich nose.
Initial taste: Sweet, smooth, and immediately warming.
Body: This where all that caramel and bourbon aging comes through. Velvety smoothness, semi-oily, and very rich. Additively so.
Finish: A tart bite of agave comes through at the end. I would agree that it is dessert-like. The flavors linger in your mouth for a long time, leaving a nice big smile on your face.

Simply put: one of my favorites. I dream about it when it's not around. It may be too sweet for some, but as a nightcap it is a brilliant supplement to a fine cognac or bourbon.
