Default Tres Agaves Launches First Vintage Dated Tequila - August 21st

Forwarded from my friend and 2008 Agave Spirits Challenge judge Lance Cutler...

TRES AGAVES MEXICAN KITCHEN LAUNCHES FIRST VINTAGE DATED TEQUILA

Tequila Ocho Is Featured Distillery at “Third Thursday” Event Featuring Special Dinner Conceived by Executive Chef Joseph Manzare

Tequila Ocho, the first Tequila to ever be released as a vintage-dated, single-estate bottling, will be the featured distillery at the August “Third Thursday” event at Tres Agaves Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Lounge. On the third Thursday of each month Tres Agaves offers a monthly Tequila tasting combined with a special dinner designed by Executive Chef Joseph Manzare. This month’s event features a special advance preview of Tequila Ocho. Patricia Vasconcelos, Global Brand Director, will present the Tequila Ocho 2008 Rancho Carrizal Blanco, the Tequila Ocho 2008 Rancho Carrizal Reposado and for the first time, the Tequila Ocho 2007 Rancho El Vergel Añejo.

As part of the “Third Thursday” event, Tres Agaves singles out one of their 30 premium Tequila brands to be featured each month. Then on the third Thursday of the month they host a singular dinner focusing on a presentation by a distillery principal. “We want ‘Third Thursdays’ to be fun events celebrating our relationships with the distilleries,” said Founding Partner Barry Augus. “In addition to tasting our featured Tequila we will offer a delicious meal, margaritas, an informative, entertaining speaker from the distillery and even live mariachi music.”

Patrons anxious to be among the first to taste Tequila Ocho should attend the August “Third Thursday” event on August 21, 2008 at Tres Agaves Restaurant located at 130 Townsend St. in San Francisco one block north from AT&T ballpark in the South Beach neighborhood. The tasting starts at 5 PM and the dinner begins at 7 PM. Patrons who wish to attend the special dinner are encouraged to make reservations early because seating is very limited. Call 415-227-0500. Cost for the dinner including the Tequila tasting and entertainment is $100.00 all inclusive of tax and tip.

A week after the Tequila Ocho Third Thursday event, Tres Agaves will host the official Northern California launch party for Tequila Ocho. For the private event, Tres Agaves will play host to150 VIPs who will sample the Tequila Ocho Tequilas alongside spectacular food on Thursday night, August 28, 2008. The owner of Tequila Ocho, Tom Estes named Tequila Ambassador to the European Union by the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT),will be the featured speaker.

Managing Partner Eric Rubin added, “Tequila Ocho is one of the most anticipated ultra-premium Tequila releases to date. We’ve tasted a lot of 100% blue agave Tequilas and Tequila Ocho is one of the best we’ve ever had. That an expert as knowledgeable as Tom Estes would choose Tres Agaves to launch his brand’s debut is a tremendous compliment.”

Tres Agaves features regional Mexican cuisine, primarily from the state of Jalisco. Jalisco, and its capital city of Guadalajara, are located in the Central Highlands, also known as the birthplace of Tequila. Tres Agaves serves hand-squeezed, fresh lime margaritas, made from any of their 30 brands of 100% blue agave Tequilas and offers 115 different Tequilas to choose from. Its bartenders are some of the best, and they take pride in teaching you about the world's finest distilled spirit, 100% blue agave Tequila, always giving you a full 2 ounce pour served in an appropriate spirits tasting glass. This combination of great bartenders and terrific Tequilas has made Tres Agaves one of the top on-premise sellers of 100% blue agave Tequila in the United States.

Thanks for the notice! I was there the other night and got a tiny sip of it (was not really enough to pass judgement yet) but one thing is for certain, Ocho picked the WRONG bottle. It is in a straight up wine bottle as they are playing off the "vintage" thing way too much IMHO. It felt so out of place that even a customer asked why they have wine up on the shelf. Best part was it is next to the Fortaleza/Abuelos which in every way (bottle, label, top, tequila) a fantastic bottle of tequila and if it didn't make the Ocho look like wine than nothing will.

It may not be the most beautiful bottle on the market, but hopefully it will help keep the price down. It makes you wonder how much less LA would be in a plain bottle, $10 to $20 bucks?? It adds up quick on a case...

Let us know what you think of Ocho if you go to the tasting.

There is a Fortaleza bar liter on the way that will be cheaper. GES is tired of seeing his bottles get thrown away.

Yes, I will let you know more after I taste it. I agree on a cheaper bottle bringing the price down but there is another cost not taken into account and that is consumer perception. This is a great subject and I will move to a thread in the general forum. Thanks for the great input!
