Default San Diego, CA Area

My definition of a tequila bar is that at the bare minimum the establishment has at least 20 bottles of tequila not including what is in the wells. The places that I am aware of that meet this criteria are listed below:

Aquarella Mexican Grill

El Agave Tequileria
2304 San Diego Avenue
Old Town, San Diego, CA 92110

Default El Zarape Tequileria & Restaurant

A hidden gem in the Normal Heights area of San Diego is El Zarape.
EL ZARAPE

They carry over 200 different Tequila's & Mezcal's.
They have a Certified Tequilier on Tuesday, and the Food is excellent.

It is close to the 805 & 8 freeways. 10 mins from Downtown & the Airport, 5 mins from Old Town, & 5 mins from Qualcomm Stadium.

Next time I am in San Diego I will have to try El Zarape.

A restaurant I have been going to for years - a bit over 30 now is

Old Town Mexican Cafe
2489 San Diego Ave
San Diego, CA 92110-2839
(619) 297-4330
Old Town Mexican Cafe | Home | Old Town Mexican Cafe

They have a decent selection of tequila and I can always find something tasty to sip.

One of the house specialities is carnitas - which is one of my favorites.

You are right on the money with this recommendation Robert! I checked out this restaurant while I was visiting Old Town for last September's Spirits of Mexico. After a very late Saturday night of sampling MUCHO agave spirits, I had to wake up rather early Sunday morning in order to make the Lobster Bus on time. I needed something to shake the cobwebs out of my head and the strong coffee, warm fresh handmade tortillas, and the Chorizo con Huevos (Mexican sausage and eggs served with rice and beans) did the trick! I didn't get a chance to try the carnitas but I will make it a point to if I return for this years SoM!

Default San Diego

Just was in San Diego and tried out a few places in the gaslamp district, two of which are listed on the main page.

Lime on 5th street has an awesome selection but is pricey. They have a separate price for a snifter and a shot, but the shot is actually a decent pour.

La Puerto on 4th street has about 150 at a guess and the prices are much better. It was packed the night I was there with people not drinking tequila but I'm not sure if it was a typical night. Very happy with the drink and the price but usually prefer a quieter atmosphere for sipping.

Right next door is another place that would fit your definition. Only about 30 tequilas but some good ones and a great atmosphere. They had one I had never tried before, Trago, which I found of middling quality.

I am not sure if anyone has heard of El Vitral, but a business associate who lives in San Diego recommends it - ELVitralRestaurant.com.

They have a pretty extensive list of tequila, including mescal and the only place I have ever seen Sotol on a menu.

I will have to give it a try next time I am in San Diego.
