What is your preferred margarita?

Just curious if everyone drinks margaritas that love tequila? If so whats your favorite way to make them....I prefer just the traditional method on the rocks with a little triple sec...shaken and poured in the biggest cup in the kitchen I can find.

All natural for me, I can't stand most restaurant marg's or mixes anymore.

Where do you find agave nectar? The local grocery store doesnt seem to know about it....

Most health food stores carry it now, and I believe you can even find it at Super Target. It is becoming very popular now, so it shouldn't be too tough to locate.

My local tequila bar just gave me 3 bottles of agave nectar. They have too much of it.

I agree with MrA.

Shot (or 2) of tequila - I prefer blanco (4 Copas, AsomBroso, Don Fulano)
Agave Nectar
FRESH lime juice
Ice

That's all you need. I tend to lean towards blanco for more agave flavor. Repos' agaveness can get lost in all that citrus.

I realize blancos are the best for making margaritas because of that. But I cant get myself to purchase a nice blanco because I have a harder time sipping on that straight. I love margaritas but my ideal margarita comes with a shot beside it and if your like me and broke most of the time, you cant afford to get your premium blanco for 'ritas and premium anejo for sipping on the side.

What are some not so expensive blancos to make a Margarita out of? What do yall think about Jose Cuervo Platina? Its on sale by my house for 54.99 right now....thats still a little high, although it did get good member reviews on the site.

I like Platino, but I wouldn't ever use it in a margarita. Try a 100% blanco that is inexpensive that has decent flavor, 30-30, hornitos, 1800, arette, etc. There are many between that $20-$25 range that make an excellent margarita, and are fine for sipping as well.

I've been using 4 Copas Repo recently... it's very nice!

Agree with using a little Agave Nectar as well. Takes the edge away from the fresh lime.

Also, I'm not a fan of Cointreau or GM in a Marg. I stick to Triple Sec.

And finally, if you want a unique touch to your Marg, use 1 Meyer's lemon to to every 2 or 3 limes. It's like a cross between a lemon and an orange so it gives the Marg a great citrus flavour without over-souring it.

Give it some time. Eventually you will be sipping blancos and appreciating them as the foundation for any good tequila.

Your probably right, and I've never really experienced a good blanco. I think I've only tryed Milagro Blanco, Sotol HDC Blanco (which is excellent), Patron Silver, 1800 and Lunazul (at 16.99 a bottle, not much could be expected).
