Default Tequila San Matiás de Jalisco Nom 1103

Recently had the opportunity to tour the San Matiás distillery makers of Rey Sol, Carmessi, San Matias Gran Reserva, and the new Orgullo to name a few. They make as many mixtos as they do Puro's. The Gran Reserva is IMHO one of the best tasting mixtos I have tasted (first time at the distillery) and many veteran tequila drinkers have admitted being fooled by this tequila. We where told its a 70/30 mix instead of the standard 51/49.

The distillery is in the middle of nowhere down a long dirt road.

The majority of the Hornos where in operation and the steam was just flowing out around the cracks in the doors. We have created a new spa treatment called agave steam bath. Yum!

My favorite place on any tour the barrel room, man the smell is amazing. Approximatly somewhere between 13000-15000 barrels currently aging.

Close up of the flag ship premo Rey Sol, which I found out they use New French Oak to age.

A little tasting of the Gran Reserva, Orgullo Anejo, and Pueblo Viejo Anejo. Everyone was suprised by the great taste of the Orgullo, and we found out that Pueblo Viejo
was the number one seller in Mexico currently. It wasn't bad for a low cost Anejo.

The bottling plant was huge and was surrounded by agave fields.
It was a great tour, we will likely return someday.

That's a lot of barrels!! I dig the front gate, I want one of those at my house, but I don't think the HOA will approve...

I dig the Orgullo, ordered some from Hi-Time awhile back and I thought it was great.

I'm glad you finally tasted the Orgullo, I'm glad that you liked it, I wish I had the money to fill my basement with it.
