Default Casta Worm

Can someone explain to me why the Casta Worm Anejo is NOM 1420 and the Casta Worm Reposado is NOM 1431....these are 2 completely different distilleries arent they?

A friend brought over Casta Worm Reposado and I was explaining how the same company that makes Milagro also makes the Casta Worm...then I was proven wrong when I brought down my bottle of Milagro SBR to show the matching numbers...I felt kinda dumb.

Casta products have been made at a few distilleries over the years including 1420, 1431, 1146, etc.

Hmm...well the Casta Worm Reposado (NOM 1431) was decent at best. I did taste it last night when a friend brought it by for a Christmas gift for us. I tried 3 oz's from a Reidel Tequila Glass at 8pm CST. I'll try more later, I dont like to take notes on a first impression.

The Repo had a nice sweet nose. The flavors were a bit bitter and harsh, somewhat like a chemical burn going down. I was not very fond of the tequila, it was good...but I've had much better. I should have a review up soon...I would say its going to get a B+ in my books (about an 85-87)...

Not sure how your rating works ...... "I was not very fond of the tequila"........"I would say its going to get a B+ in my books (about an 85-87)" This seems a contradiction to me.

I suppose not being "fond" of Casta Worm Reposado means....I wouldnt pay for it but its worth drinking if its available. I havent drank any tequilas that have been so horrible to be ranked less than a "C"...this does not include mixtos, I dont feel many deserve to be part of the same rating system as a 100% Agave tequila.

I will only go and purchase what I feel is an "A" tequila...unless I am buying something new that I have not researched, then its kind of the luck of the draw.

You can check my review soon...I was getting on here to work on that anyways. What I mentioned earlier doesnt qualify as an actual rating, just a first impression. If you have a pointer on reviewing that would be more helpful to me, fire away...I enjoy receiving intelegent advice.

The format that TJ and Mr Agave use is how I try and judge and relate tequila by...it seems to cover everything.
I also agree with TJ that the rating is just a bases because everyone has different tastes, but you need to be consistant on how you rate.
I just did not understand how you can rate a tequila at B+ / 85-87, when you didn't exactly care for the taste. You don't leave much room in your rating from a so so tequila rated B+ to a quality tequila of an A rating.

Example of one of the ratings listed on Tequila.net ( I left out the discriptions)
Overall rating (weighted) 84
Aroma-Nose 84
Initial Taste 83
Body 84
Finish 83
Smoothness 84
Price 83
Presentation 84

You make a good point. I had made a thread a long time ago for ratings. The advice given to me by members of tequila.net were saying that tequilas dont really get rated less than 65 or so...

65-75 Absolutely disgusting.
75-85 Not worthy of me spending money on. Taste is ok, but lacks in what I prefer.
85-90 Drinkable tequila that I wouldnt go purchase on my own.
90-95 Tequila that has every characteristic I look for.
95+ The best tequilas I've tasted (IMHO, since I havent tried them all!)

So with me saying an 85 rating, or B+...I guess I was saying, the tequila is average to drink, it lacks in the qualities I look for in a great reposado but the presentation helps balance that some. I would not pay 85.00 for this bottle (it was a gift) so the quality vs. price downgrades this tequila more. So I would have to say its still an 85-87 average.

I hope this clears this up more.

Tequila.net reviews instruction page:
http://www.tequila.net/faqs/tequila/...nd_mezcal.html

This is the scale that everyone should be following to acquire a great overall average.
90-100 = Outstanding (A)
80-90 = Good, above average (B)
70-80 = Average (C)
60-70 = Below Average (D)
50-60 = Poor (F)
