Default Differences in the "Same" Tequila

I realise that there are going to be differences between every batch, but I also expect some consistency in each label's taste.

I have recently had 2 bottles of Don Julio repo, 1 was great, 1 I would MAYBE use for margaritas.

The good one was bought in Vegas duty free, had a red box and a cork.

The not so good one was bought in Canada (for 2x the price) has a gold box with red lettering, and one of the craptasic plastic poor spouts.

How can one be confidant that he gets what he pays for, a premium tequila, not a tequila that barely tastes better than the crap they serve at the local watering hole?

Don Julio and Herradura, tequila classics most people would swear by , have been very inconsistant in recent years.
Who knows why for sure, but the increased demand for product and expanding their market has probably led them to outsource agaves and lighten up on quality control.

Don Julio, Herradura and Chinaco Anejos have been finished off and will not be returning to my shelves. They just do not hold up any more. For the same prices I can get Casa Noble varieties which are vastly superior.

Yes I do like CN offerings too.

Unfortunately they are not available in Canada

I was wondering what was the newer bottle of the DJ repo I had. I think it was the one with the cork. but not really sure.

Is there a way to find out, or does anyone know ?
