Default anyway to know if it's fake ? DJ Blanco

hey
I live in Brazil and I don't have acess to many tequilas here
so the easier way to get good tequilas is uruguay and paraguay I guess

so almost all my tequila experience is resumed in drinking tequila while travelling so I'm new to the tequila's world

so, yesterday I bought one bottle of Don Julio Blanco at uruguay
never drank DJ blanco before, but I thought it tasted just like cheap alcohol
so now I'm asking myself if paid for a fake tequila and I have no idea how to say if DJ is THAT bad, if I don't know how to identify a decent tequila or if I bought a fake bottle

there's anyway to know, since I never drank this tequila before ?

Did you watch them pour? If so, did the bottle have a little plastic thing over the opening?

If it did have the "marble" that many tequilas are bottled with to prevent fraud and piracy, it was most likely legit, as those are pretty hard to remove and replace.

If it didn't, or you didn't see, I don't know that any of us would be able to give a very valid opinion without tasting the juice, or more specific tasting notes. Could you go back and check out the bottle? Could you ask them to open a new bottle and pour from it?

Don Julio Blanco has allways been a consistently decent product - not great, but good within its group. I doubt that many tequila fanciers would describe it as you do.
Do you remember how it was sealed? Can you send us a picture of the bottle?

I remember that the ''warranty seal'' was kind of worn where it contact the wood top ( not sure if it's normal or what )

not sure how DJ is sealed but by the way mine was sealed, was pretty easy for someone put any kind of liquid inside of the bottle, just take the top and put it again

The Don Julio bottles (at least the older rounded ones) have a pour spout under the screw top cap. It would be really hard to put tequila back into the bottle. Did the bottle look like the picture of the one here on the website?

so here are 2 pictures of the bottle

I tried to put some water inside, and there nothing like a pour spout preventing me to do that, can someone confirm that it should have a pour spout inside ?

and the warranty seal was worn like I said, and it wasn't ruptured ( because has no glue since was worn ) where it should be when I open the top

don't know if there's any detail in the bottle that can help me identify if it's fake
I can post more pictures

thanks for your help

That bottle was bought in Mexico (38% Alcohol content)... and thus it *should* have a blocked spout with a marble inside... if your is open... my guess is that it was adulterated.

Then again- I am not sure what % is exported to Paraguay/Uruguay... it is entirely possible that it was a bad batch.

mine have just a plastic ''protection'' with nothing inside
as I said I put some water inside that just instantly entered the bottle

if someone could send me a picture of how the protection should be with the marble inside, it would help me a lot ( although I guess it's too much to ask ;P)

This is how the tamper resistant top should look. There is usually a little gold paper seal that attaches to both the wooden cap and the bottle neck. I couldn't tell by your photos how the bottle looks with the top off. If your bottle doesn't have this plastic top with marble ball inside, then I guess it is possible it could have been tampered with.
