Default Leaked Cork of Gran Patron Burdeos

Hi,

I am a Canadian (Ontario) resident who recently purchased a bottle of Gran Patron Burdeos from the duty free shop at the Las Vegas airport.
Upon my return home, I realized that the bottle I purchased was leaking (the cork was a little wet, as well as some portions of the wooden box).
The leak was most likely from the cork due to the pressure caused from the airplane flight. The plastic seal still remains on the bottle, but is ripped a little (it was their last display bottle).

I am worried about the product, and do not want my tequila to evaporate or to turn bad/spoil. What can I do about this? Should I just open it and use the bee shaped stopper? Should I just place tape and seran wrap over it to seal up any hole?

I just want to preserve this bottle the best I can to save for a special occasion 5-10 years from now (i.e. my wedding).

Thank your considerations,
Sad and worried,

Adrian

Use saran wrap to seal up the top and keep the bottle upright. That should keep the remaining tequila safe until you are ready to open and enjoy.

Cool, thanks!

It comes with a wooden case which stands upright but with a 45 degree tilt.
The smell of the tequila is no longer noticeable, and thus, confirming that the leak was not a function of the bottle but of the cork. However, the case for the bottle is open when it stands upright, allowing light to reach the bottle.

It is important to keep the bottle stored in the dark?
Is darkness similarly important for other types of liquor like vodka, cognac, scotch whisky?

I guess if you can store it in a cool humid location, chances are better you won't lose much juice and quality. If the cork dries out and lets air in, oxidation and evaporation will begin and you might not enjoy what you have in 5+ years.

By wrapping the top, hopefully you can keep the bottle sealed fairly well. You don't necessarily need to store it in the dark, but you definitely don't want the bottle in direct sunlight or anywhere the temperatures will fluctuate a lot.
