Just got back from Mexico (Ixtapa) and picked up three more bottles of the Reserva Especial. I knew something was different because I hadn't seen the easy pull tab before and they said Anejo instead of Rep now.
As soon as I got home and put them beside my remaining old bottle I knew something was up, color was completely different. Cracked one open and the smell is different as well. Haven't actually tried it yet, but thanks for having this thread so I could verify I wasn't insane. Just went an flipped the bottles around and indeed all my new bottles are the new NOM number. |

I was there at the same time as *45* and when I asked the owner of 1079 about the move she said it was temporary. She implied the issue was about production and volume, and that the move was temporary. I asked if they (1921) would return to 1079 and she said that she expected them to at some point now that the issues had been addressed
Take that for what it is worth, Im just repeating the conversation. Quote:

Personally, I have stopped purchasing 1921. I'm making due just fine with aha Toro, another 1079 product. I wish 1921 the best but I do NOT respond well to change. I'll be willing to try them again if good reports come down the pike from people I trust. But not before.
This reminds me of some of my favorite bands making "changes". One day I'm a loyal fan loving everything they put out and the next moment I'm never listening to them ever again. Sad but true. It happens.

I have loved the whole line of NOM 1079 1921 since I first tried it several years ago. The blanco, in particular, was a top 5 for me.
I just ordered several bottles of 1921, hoping it was the old stuff. I should have asked, rather than hoped, becaus it is the new stuff. I don't want to be unfair, and I take the point above that it may take a few batches for them to "settle in" at the new distillery. But my initial (strong) reaction to sampling the repo was that I simply did not like it. Hot and bitter compared to the 1079. This is only an intial impression, and I'll try to post a more valid review later. But I was not tempted to sample twice. Sad.

Finally tried the "new" 1921 anejo last night and it was very good. I think I liked it better than the nom 1079. I'll have to do some more sampling and give a review but initial tastes were very buttery but also light for an anejo. The cool thing though is the price, $42, they had a sale on the entire line and the sign said the anejo was $47 but this rang up as a repo at $42, I think I'll be heading over there for some more.
