This original release Emperador is a stellar Tequila, it is one of my all time favorites, unfortunately not available anymore. Most likely what you have been offered are the reissues which look exactly the same, the tell tell sign would be the number and no signature by G.G.
If by a miracle you did come across some originals then by all means send some my way!

The ultimate tell tale sign here is this sentence:

"The importer is Preiss Imports"

Preiss was not the import specialist for Chinaco at the time of the 30th release. Instead, original bottles were imported by Fielding and Jones. You are correct in the fact that there are other signs but right off the bat, if it is coming from Preiss it is new. Not to mention, I was just with Henry Preiss in LV and he would have mentioned if he had found original bottles and we would have bought them right then and there (in fact, between me, Eric Rubin, the La Pinata guys, and everyone else there at the time we probably would have had a bidding war going).

Sure do! How many do you want. The cost is a Chinaco 30th. We have to drink it to find the bridge.

Wow…there is a lot of controversy on this item. Let me do some investigation and get the correct info. The last thing I want to do is accidentally get the wrong item and have everyone call me on it.

Ok, it's the 2nd edition. This was confirmed by Steve Fox from Preiss Imports. This is what I'm going to do. I will offer the Emperador for $399.99/bottle for tequila.net members. I got a few cases, so take advantage of this deal if you are interested. I should be getting it in a month or two.

It is an etch / engraved signature on the bottle, to the right of the front label.
