Thumbs up DM San Luis del Rio

Last night at the DM Mezcal dinner here in Denver I got to sample a different version of the San Luis del Rio product from Ron Cooper. Instead of using the normal Espadin Agave, they did a batch using the Blue Weber Agave. All production processes the same, just the different raw material.

We tasted them head to head, and it was interesting to see how different they both were. Creamy - buttery mouthfeel on the Espadin version, and a dry, almost bitter mouthfeel on the Blue Agave version. Both had great flavor, and the aromas from the Blue Agave version were a bit lighter.

He is considering doing a special release using the Blue Agave. Hopefully we'll get to see it on the market.
