The moment you pour Gran Marquis XA into your glass you are smitten with the color. It's rich, deep and dark. The bottle is pitch black, which doesn't allow you to see the tequila within. It's an interesting shape and looks classy...and as you know, which many spirits that comes with a price.

Price: $250-300/bottle

Aroma: A fairly light nose. Not much agave, light wood and spice notes. Nothing overly sweet either.

Initial Taste: Nutty, chocolatey and with dark spices. Interesting.

Body: Medium bodied…great color. The chocolate and oak flavors are strongest and they combine with an interesting nutty flavor. Everything is in good balance.

Finish: Really easy to sip and the linger is very long with the oak and nuts. The spice creeps in at different points. An interesting and delicious drink with a unique finish.

The flavors in Gran Marquis are unique and delicious. That apparently is what happens when you age something for 52 months in newly charred French oak. Everything about this pour says luxury and class...and if you have $300 to spend, it's probably worth a try. However, to me, I could get 3-4 tequilas that I like as much or more than this one for the money and for that reason, it makes it hard for me to recommend this...or any other tequila that runs 3 Ben Franklins. It's very good, but it's not in the "great" category that makes it a must add to a collection at any price.
