Revisiting Don Fernando. I loved the reposado and what I had read on the anejo looked promising. Upon pouring, this looks like a dark, rich anejo. Let's see how it tastes.

Aroma: Honey, Oak and spices (cloves)
Initial Taste: Rich caramel and toffee flavors. A bit of agave and oak too.
Body: Thick body. Tons of spices like cinnamon and cloves to go with the rich sweetness of the caramel and wood.
Finish: Medium-long and nice and spicy for an anejo. A slight dark chocolate bitterness with the dessert like sweetness. A really nice finish to a nicely aged anejo.

This is just flat out a great sipper. Nice rich flavors, nice tequila spiciness and a great nose and color. In the price range this is a very nice buy. I highly recommend it.

The nose has a slight hint of colves and honey. I was very surprised with the inital taste of this tequila. It has a soft and very sweet entery that is nice and smooth. The first taste that you get is a massive mouthful of honey and vanilla. The light sense of nuts, lead pencil, and popsicle sticks followed in the finish.

Sampled from brandy glass

Wow. I tried Don Fernando Anejo at El Carmen in Los Angeles last weekend and was really impressed. As a preface, however, the bartender told me that the deep blue 3-litre bottle he poured from was over 7 years old and that he was not a fan of the new Don Fernando Anejo. That being said, here are my thoughts on the bottle that I tasted.

This is a really smooth tequila. The aroma is sweet with a hint of clover. The oak does not overpower the agave and is accompanied by notes of caramel and coffee. This medium-bodied tequila has a medium to long duration of flavor with a hint of bitterness that really activates the saliva glands at the sides of the mouth.

At $33/shot at El Carmen, it falls into the "high-priced" category, but well worth it in my opinion.

My next goal is to find a current bottle of Don Fernando Anejo to compare. Until I can confirm that it "ain't what it used to be", I would strongly recommend this tequila.
