I remember my first taste of this - I love coffee and was blown away by the alcoholic caffeine hit. That was the high water mark; now I am appalled by how sweet it tastes. It's thick, sickly and oily, even when ice cold. Must admit that it can be a guilty pleasure style ending to an evening when inebriated but it's hard to recommend. The Incendio version - with chocolate and chili - is much better. Love the frosted bottle too. ]]> Mon, 06 Feb 2017 22:48:11 +0000 <![CDATA[1921 Tequila Cream: ]]> https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=3252 https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=3252 Superb. Blue Nectar Tequila is one of those brands. It comes from NOM 1459 (Tequila Selecto de Amatitán, S.A. De C.V.) which makes some other nicely priced and tasty juices like Gran Tulum and Viva Los Sanchos. The bottle has a very sleek look that would also work well as a book stop. I'm not sure what to expect, but the best way to find out is to dive right in... Aroma: A very nice and well balance nose. Agave, vanilla, spice and ripe fruit (apple & banana) Initial Taste: A nice balance of agave and vanilla. Tasty, but not too sweet. Body: A nice oily body that sits on the tongue like velvet. Agave and oak combine to make an array of flavors. This isn’t vegetal at all. Just a nice combo of sweetness, spice, pepper and wood. Finish: Nice pepper flavors along with the brown spices work with the oak and vanilla to make a medium length, but delicious linger. Simply put, I dig this one a lot. It's got good balance and a lot of flavor. The green agave aspect isn't huge in this, if that's your preferred profile. However, if you like a good balance of agave, spice, light sweetness and a medium oak note, this will be in your wheel house. And the big bonus of this one is that it's in the mid-$30 range. This bottle is a definite buy if you see it one the shelf. Well done Blue Nectar! ]]> Wed, 11 Dec 2013 17:00:00 +0000 <![CDATA[Tanteo Tequila Tropical Infusion: ]]> https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=2684 https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=2684 Venturing into an area where I wasn't sure that I wanted to, but if the price is right, I'll give any agave spirit a shot. Aroma: Like a bag of tropical flavored skittles. Lots of fruit scents – banana, pineapple, guava and light papaya. Initial Taste: All of the tropical fruits listed and a spice that is not the typical black/white pepper spice of a tequila, but a jalapeno spice. Body: Thin body with a similar taste profile to the initial taste. No real change. Finish: The jalapeno spice lingers a long time with the tropical sweetness. It’s a big time change of pace from the flavors of an aged tequila. I definitely like the complexity of barrel aging more than infused tequilas. The tropical flavors are a nice change of pace and a jalapeno spice is an interesting addition as well. I’d say to give it a shot, but don’t expect a similar profile to a traditional tequila. I think it might be best used in a spicy tropical cocktail. ]]> Wed, 03 Oct 2012 03:44:54 +0000 <![CDATA[Milenio Liqueur of Almond: ]]> https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=2599 https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=2599 Well, when you travel to Mexico and have the opportunity to bring back tequila - you know that the number of bottles will be limited. You don't want to make bad selections so you don't waste any space. For me, this was a slam dunk since I love both tequila and almond liqueur. The distillery was Casa Reyes and it is located on the same street as Orendain and El Llano (which was the original Orendain fabrica) which now produces Tres Mujeres. Evidently there is only one production run a year at this fabrica and that includes this liqueur. I was struck by the very different flavor produced by the combination of almonds and tequila together. It is sweet and even nutty and the color is lighter than regular almond liqueurs. Since the product would seem to be rare - I am reluctant to mix it in cocktails, something I would normally do with any liqueur. This is an after dinner drink for me and not one I would consume after drinking any quantity of tequila. The flavor is like no other I have tried even when I have mixed regular tequilas with almond liqueurs. Much of the flavor has to do with the local source of almonds and the local source of agave. The aroma is so light that you have to work at detecting the order. The first taste is surprising since it is a completely new experience. The body is extremely light and the product goes down very smooth. At the finish I tasted more almond than tequila - which is what I wanted. My girlfriend Linda wanted a little more body but she thought the finish was perfectly balanced. We both loved it and it was only $24.00 a bottle - in Mexico. ]]> Tue, 31 Jul 2012 07:45:52 +0000 <![CDATA[Suavecito Tequila Anejo: ]]> https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=2208 https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=2208 Suavecito Anejo * NOM 1431 * Tasted December 2011 * Riedel Tequila Glass Appearance: copper, rosy hues - slow tears Aroma: sweet agave, wood & cherry Initial Taste: burnt sugar and agave Spirit Body: agave, vegetal with light wood Finish / Aftertaste: mint and chocolate finish, sweet aftertaste The lower proof and added Agave nectar make Suavecito easy to sip, which makes a great introductory Tequila. As a secondary aroma, smells agave, but it has an unpleasant odor. It smells like cheap tequila. The aroma of the agave is very disguised with other scents. Also smell of alcohol it is present but not very dominant. And it has very mild fruity notes such as peach. I do not find the scent of oak, which is supposed to give resting process in the barrels of port. There is little body. One would think that by being rested it was going to have a full body but it is not. The color is NOT pink, it is more like a melon color. The initial flavor tastes like alcohol, the agave flavor is very much disguised with sweet flavors of roses and Jamaica. Not much astringency. Can be considered a smooth tequila. But the flavor is not convincing me. In my personal opinion, this tequila is not to be drink alone or sipped. It tastes nasty and definitely confirms the initial flavor it has. It is a tequila to mix. It has no good balance. I would have liked the taste of agave more present and it is not. Definitely I give it a failing grade. I do not recommend this tequila to take it alone. Only recommend if you're mixing and still not sure of its flavor. I was disappointed. ]]> Wed, 13 Jul 2011 17:25:28 +0000 <![CDATA[Patron XO Cafe: ]]> https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=1913 https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=1913 the presentation and cost are great but the taste is terrible. ]]> Sun, 17 Apr 2011 03:10:05 +0000 <![CDATA[Gran Centenario Rosangel Tequila: ]]> https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=1825 https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=1825 I'm tasting this as I'm writing and I'm really mixed on this one. I might update this later as we make our way through the bottle. The more its sitting its opening up a bit. I bought it for my wife (valentines day, I'm so witty) who's been eyeballing the bottle for weeks. Nose- Its very interesting, the nose is saying slight agave, sweetness, lots of floral notes, a bit of oak, and port wine. Nothing that wasn't suspected from this bottle. Taste- Again, interesting. Theres a bit of cough syrup to it. Lots of pepper all the way down and through the finish with a slight alcohol burn. You get bits of all the notes from the nose but its not a exact replication. I haven't made up my mind as if this ones a sipper but I can see it being a good mixer. Presentation/Price- The bottle is very nice. It def. looks like a $40 dollar bottle. Art deco styling, rich rose color, and a darling lil painting of an angel on it. I cant say I would buy it again, maybe if it was 10-15 bucks cheaper. ]]> Mon, 14 Feb 2011 20:31:36 +0000 <![CDATA[1921 Tequila Cream: ]]> https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=1753 https://www.tequila.net/tequila-reviews/liqueurs-flavored/discussions/review.html?id=1753 We just got our first bottle from our recent trip to Mexico. Bottle is attractive, frosted red, a bit plain, has a screw top. Sampled from a large shot glass 3/15/10. The color is ... red, has a odd nose that tells you this is more like a juice with some alcohol than a tequila. Everything I enjoy about agave/tequila is missing here. My wife likes it... go figure, but she doesn't enjoy what makes tequila great. If she'll have a drink with me and this is what it takes so be it. If you like pomegranate more than agave, this is for you. To be fair, I am having trouble rating this "tequila", it just isn't typical from any perspective. I'll be honest here, I bought this based on the unique color, quite different to say the least. Has a very nice complex nose, but once sipped does not quite live up to what your nose was telling you. Has a floral, spice taste, medium smooth on the way down with a pepper finish thats hits the tongue/ roof of your mouth, on the way down that lingers for a minute. Heat, spice/pepper, florals never hits bottom, thats a good thing. Not oily and no tears but may pool a bit on the side of the glass. I prefer an anejo's complex body and longer legs, so take this for what its worth. If you like repo's you may want to consider this one.
