Restaurants and bars often place this on the same level as Don Julio, Chinaco and Herradura. My main gripe is that in both America and Mexico have an enormous pricing gap for this product. In Mexico I have seen it priced anywhere from 300 pesos (23 usd at the time) to 600 (46 usd at the time). In America, Trader Joes sells it for $35, while BevMo is currently selling it for around $60...

Nose: Probably the Most pleasant part of this experience. Sweet and Smokey
Initial Taste: Starts slow. Gets sweet with a touch of oak presence
Body: Here is when it becomes less remarkable. Oak turns into more spice and burn than most Anejos tend to have.
Finish: Medium length burn coupled with a touch of more oak.

All in all this is fairly unremarkable considering how steep the price and be. If you are looking for a tequila that has been around forever and actually has notoriety in Mexico, go with Don Julio Anejo, Chinaco Anejo or Cazadores Anejo.

It is a reasonable sipping tequila. At $45 a bottle, I've been disappointed a great deal worse. Yes, there are better tequila's for the price, you just have to stumble around and find them.

This isn't an outstanding anejo, but it is a good one and far better than what most folks think of when they hear "tequila."

The nose is pleasant with definite agave and very slightly smokey. Initial taste is slightly sweet, with a little lemon. Body is smooth and a little oily. The finish has definite oak and citrus. Overall, a good tequila but without any real distinguishing characteristics. A decent pure agave anejo, and that's always a good thing. For the price, I usually go for something else, but I'd never consider this to be a bad choice.

To my surprise, this was a very good Tequila for the price.

Aroma: Hints of caramel and Agave
Initial Taste: Somewhat bland; however, hints of sweet fruit creep up on you.
Finish: Very smooth, no bite, slight heat, overall very easy to sip
Price: Very affordable for a premium Tequila
Presentation: Leaves something to be desired...bottle looks like a rocky barrel, does not really stand out.

Overall, this was a very good tequila. Cannot sat it was the best I have ever had; however, it is way better than what I had expected. I would highly recommend trying out this tequila. It is cheap and very easy and enjoyable to drink.

However, considering what can be had out there for the same price...this is tequila that you skip.

Aroma: Heavy wood scents along with caramel and alcohol.
Initial Taste: Some sweetness, but a little bitterness and oak are present as well.
Body: Medium body. Wood dominates the body of this tequila.
Finish: Wood, some spice and a hint of anise on the finish. More "burn" than I would care to have in an anejo.

Sauza is a brand that everyone knows. That's the only conceivable reason that I can see someone spending $35-40 on this tequila instead of the numerous other ones out there.

Sniff: Strong & complex.
Sip: Hard to explain. Comfortable, but with a tequila bite trying to make its way through.
After: Fades easily.

Overall: Different. Interesting if you have tried many anejos, but if this will be the one bottle you will every buy, there are better options.

A good anejo, not great. I taste some additives in the tres generaciones line so it's not one of my favorites. Still, it was good to try and it's decent.

Aroma: Oak, vanilla, and spices.
Initial Taste: Upon entry into mouth, its sweet, and a little bitter.
Body: Agave, oak, and 'additives'.
Finish: A short heated finish of short duration.

I found that it had a slight alcohol burn going down but nothing that bad. I enjoyed drinking it on the rocks but as a shot I didn't think it was great (that could be because it was warm though). All and all I would say it is a decent Anejo.

NOM 1102 ? Tasted on 5/20/07 at 5:00pm. I purchased 1.5 ounces of this tequila at Cantina Del Cabo in Davis, CA and tasted it out of a 4 ounce glass. The tequila is golden in color and is aged for more than 3 years. Sauza Tres Generations Anejo aromas consist of intense fruit and floral aspects followed by moderate earth and vanilla. On the lighter side, this Anejo has mild aromas of spice and smoke. On the tip of tongue, this tequila is mellow and has an oily mouth feel. While the tequila has mild agave flavor, it is sweet-to-syrupy and has only a hint of bitterness. The flavor of this tequila contains intense flavors of fruit and floral followed by mild earth and spice aspects. Deeper flavors of Sauza Tres Generations Anejo consist of hints of vanilla and smoke. Upon finishing this tequila, there is a short duration of flavor and a subtle warm and tingly alcohol intensity. I have rated this tequila at 85 out of 100 points.

Sauza is a company with a lot of history, Cenobio Sauza established it in 1873 and they claim to be the first tequila ever to be sent into the United States. Also among the things that I found about this distillery is that they were the first to use steam instead of direct fire to heat the stills. Cenobios son, Eladio Sauza continued the business and then his son Javier that was the last Sauza to be a part of this tequila company. Sauza is made up to this day in the distillery La Perseverancia but now one of the largest companies in the business owns the company, Allied Domecq. Sauza has several different brands including the well known Jiro which was one of the large "well" (Under the Bar) tequilas in all the bars around America, Sauza Silver, Sauza Extra Gold, Hacienda which is new, Triada, Hornitos and the top of the line Tres Generaciones. 3G as some people call it is a long traditional tequila in Mexico honoring the three generations of Sauza's, years ago one of the top high end brands, but for many years now it has been losing a big part market share to companies such as Herradura and Don Julio. Their main business has been done with the lower end brands and not with Tres Generasiones. Their production methods have little to resemble the old days, they use high tech in every sense including in their cooking of the agave that gives a different taste, but I will go into that a little later. The distillery is located in the city of Tequila, just by La Rojena of Cuervo. Tres Generaciones Anejo used to be presented in a dark brown bottle with the faces of the three generations, Cenobio, Eladio and Javier, now it has changed to an amber bottle with images in the front chest of the bottle and a more "modern" looking label. It mentions in the bottle a triple distilling with I first saw it done by Casa Noble, and that must have improved 3G's new taste. 3G Anejo is a shiny copper color with a medium to heavy body, which looks fantastic in a cognac snifter, if you swirl it around the glass it will cling to it and slowly go down the sides leaving some nice legs. Main aromas that are perceived are pepper and oak with little raw agave and a slight trace of butterscotch and banana. This is a very nice combination of aromas but I would like to see a bit more of the agave specially cooked agave that is the base of great tequila. The reason we do not get this great cooked agave aroma is the cooking method of Sauza that is done a very special way in modern steam pressure cookers which do the job very fast but miss the essence of the this process. Taste is very nice with a little bit more alcohol than what I like but resembling the older style of tequilas that were made stronger. The notes of pepper and oak again are very much there, followed by raw agave and hits of butterscotch that combine very nicely to make a up scale spirit with a medium finish, I would like them to stay much longer. Not the best anejo but probably because of the omission of the old traditional methods but not bad for such a big company. Triple distilling help very much the quality of 3G maybe they should keep imitating the more boutique tequilas. This is not a tequila for mixing I would use it as an after dinner drink as I do with most anejos I like.
