Sauza Hornitos Anejo Tequila

Sauza Hornitos Anejo Tequila - A 100% de Agave Tequila, exceptionally blended and aged one to three years or more in American oak barrels and contains hints of vanilla, toasted wood and chocolate for a soft, smooth taste. Deep, rich and complex, Hornitos Añejo is an excellent choice for savoring on its own neat in a snifter.

I'm a big fan of Sauza Hornitos Reposado as being the most affordable and drinkable 100% agave tequilas available in the U.S. - however I'm disappointed in the anejo.
I firmly detect added sugars. This is the same trick that Jose Quervo uses which is responsible for the horrible hangovers that people experience after drinking barely too much of it.
I would have hoped that Sauza could have just trusted in the time honored recipe and give as a quality and affordable 100% agave Anejo without the need to sweeten it up.
I'm completely happy with the earthy, hint of oak, smoky flavor of a decent anejo without the candy.

Sauza Hornitos Anejo NOM 1102 Tasted on 2/22/08 at 9:30pm. I tried this tequila at the Graduate in Davis, CA and tasted it out of a snifter glass. The tequila is amber brown in color. The Hornitos aromas consist of intense fruit and floral aspects followed by moderate earth and caramel. On the lighter side, this Anejo has mild aromas of spice. On the tongue, this tequila is mellow and has a oily mouth feel. While the tequila has moderate agave flavor, it is fairly sweet and has only a hint of bitterness. The flavor of this tequila contains intense notes of earth, coffee, and caramel followed by moderate agave, floral, and wood aspects. Deeper flavors of Hornitos Anejo consist of mild vanilla. Upon finishing this tequila, there is a medium duration of flavor and subtle numbing alcohol intensity. I have rated this tequila at 87/88 out of 100 points.
