Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia Anejo Tequila

Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia Anejo Tequila - 100% Aņejo. 100% Blue Agave. Aged in oak barrels for an average of 3 years. Final blend includes Tequila from reserves aged over 30 years. Only the estate’s finest 10-year-old agaves are hand-selected. Only the most flavorful inner portion of the agave’s piņa (heart) is used. Vibrant, with a full, mellow flavor, combines floral, agave, vanilla and Cognac-like flavors.

Reserva de la Familia is the Cuervo family's finest Tequila. In fact, for over 10 generations it was a family secret only shared with the closest of friends. In 1995, to celebrate their 200-year anniversary as the world's leading producer of Tequila, the Cuervo family decided to share this blend of its special Tequila reserves with people who truly savor an exceptional taste sensation.

Reserva de la Familia is often served in a snifter, where its complex flavors and aromas can be fully appreciated. Produced in limited quantities with a distinct personality that varies from year to year, Reserva de la Familia has been recognized with several prestigious awards in Mexico, the United States and Europe.

Each bottle is handmade, numbered, dated and sealed in wax, and every year the Cuervo family commissions a different Mexican artist to design the new collectible box for Reserva de la Familia.

It was a pretty good tequila. I was especially impressed with the finish, it was incredibly clean and smooth. The smells that unlocked after stirring for a little while were very pronounced. I was hesitant at first simply because of the Jose name but it was pretty good over all. As far as presentation they could have done better

Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia Anejo 2006 NOM 1122 Tasted 4/11/07. The tequila is golden brown in color and has intense earth, caramel, and floral aromas. Once you get past the intensity of the nose, you can smell moderate notes of vanilla and spice. On the tip of the tongue the tequila is mellow and soft, while feeling oily in the mouth. While the tequila is sweet, it is actually has low amount of bitterness. Now onto flavor. The flavor has intense floral and chemical attributes which are followed by moderate fruit, agave, and earth. The tequila also has mild vanilla and caramel. The tequilas finish is a medium-to-long duration of flavor followed by a slightly numbing and tingly alcohol feeling. Overall, I rated this tequila at the B+ level.

I recieved this tequila as a gift in March'06, finally opened it on Christmas'06. I was a little leary seeing the Cuervo name but after one sip all that disappeared. It has a peculiar nose and a very strong vanilla scent. You can taste the agave but also the oak, I know it's strange but they seem to have it balanced perfectly. The only thing I don't care for is the price, but at least I didn't buy this one ;)
