El Tesoro de Don Felipe Paradiso Anejo Tequila

El Tesoro de Don Felipe Paradiso Anejo Tequila - Irresistible and deliciously smooth. Literally a "paradise" created by Don Felipe Camarena and Alain Royer of A. de Fussigny Cognac, this unique, handcrafted blend of 100% blue agave tequilas takes on a remarkable elegance from its distinct, Cognac-barrel aging process.

I am an El Tesoro lover anyway and when I tried this it knocked my socks off...The price is a little rich for my pocket at $100 plus a bottle retail and $20 per shot...

It has the base of El Tesoro tequila which is naturally sweet, flavorful and spicy...but the aging in Cognac barrels gives it a real premium spirit taste and silky mouthfeel.

I am a bourbon drinker too and I like a good Bourbon from a snifter...warmed by the hands to unlock the flavor. This product drinks the same way. I spent about a half hour to 45 minutes savoring this stuff up in a snifter. I don't know if it was because I had to get my moneys worth or if I liked it so much. Anyway, it is a fine spirit and the next time I have $20 burning a hole in my pocket I am going to Agave Bar and Grill in Lakeview (Chicago) and having another go at it...
I really wish more tequila bars carried it aqs it's a true tequila art form!

I will start by saying that I am not familiar enough with cognac to instantly recognize the flavor within a tequila (as opposed to AsomBroso La Rosa in which the Bordeaux is readily identifiable). But El Tesoro de Don Felipe Paradiso certainly has a unique personality and is worth a try.

Initial tasting yielded flavors of agave and peppery spices with a hint of vanilla. Wood is mild, but present. The finish has bite with a slight numbing of alcohol, but a good duration of flavor.

Overall, it left me satisfied; and the unique flavors that (I assume) are derived from the cognac barrels peak a certain amount of interest on the palate.

El Tesoro Paradiso Anejo NOM 1139 Tasted 5/22/07. On this date I tried this tequila by doing a blind tasting. This tequila is a golden brown color and has intense aromas of earth, fruit, and floral. There are also moderate aromas of vanilla and spice followed by mild caramel and smoke. A mellow taste on the tip of the tongue leads to a sweet tequila taste with no bitterness. The El Tesoro Paradiso Anejo flavor contains intense fruity, agave, and floral flavors. The tequila also has moderate intensities of vanilla and caramel followed by a mild earth and spice accents. El Tesoro Paradiso Anejo finishes with a long duration of flavor and a slightly numbing alcohol feeling. This tequila has been awarded the overall rating of A/A-.
