Tequila Corralejo Anejo

Corralejo Anejo Tequila - Anejo, by law, must spend 12 months in the wood. Corralejo's Anejo is aged in new American oak barrels charred on the inside to lend a touch of smoke to the flavors inside. It is our finest example of Don Leonardo's skills and is bottled in red, signifying "prosperity" in Mexico. Out of respect for the brand, we always stand when drinking it.

Color: Pale golden hue
Aroma: Oak, smoke, hints of cocoa, vanilla, peppercorn
Taste: Caramel, cooked pear, white pepper, cardamom spice, full body finish

Tasted in a rocks glass on January 25, 2008 showing long, thin and medium lasting legs down the glass. Tasted in a bar along with food & friends unable to give my full attention for a dedicated review. Though here it goes.

Corralejo Anejo

Color: light carmel color
Aroma: oak and vanilla
Taste: light wood, fruit, vanilla, light agave with a less oily body than Corralejo Reposado, long smooth finish with a smooth burn

A good anejo for the price and even complimented by guests at the bar that have not experienced an anejo tequila before. The Corralejo Anejo would be a good rookie sipping tequila.

Corralejo Anejo NOM 1368 Tasted 4/9/07. The tequila is pale yellow in color. Beginning with intense fruity, earthy, and floral aromas, the deeper aromas include moderate caramel and a hint of spicy scents. On the tip of the tongue there is a mellow and soft sensation that is followed by a sweet, somewhat bitter taste. Upon tasting, the tequila has intense earth with moderate fruity, floral, and agave flavors. Lastly, there is a hint of caramel flavor. Corralejo Anejo tequila finishes with a medium duration of flavor and numbing alcohol intensity. Overall, I rate this tequila at the B level.

I've got to tell you, Corralejo Anejo is one of my favorite anejos! A little empty on the nose and the initial taste is very soft, but the body and finish are absolutely spectacular! The flavor is rich and full. An incredible sip across the board. For the average liquor buyer, this will be priced on the high-side, but it will be quite average for more experienced tequila fans. The presentation is not as elaborate or artisan as others, but the bottle is a striking red that looks handsome in any setting.
