4 Copas Anejo Tequila

4 Copas Añejo is our aged tequila and is, unequivocally, the king of tequila. It rests in white oak barrels for a minimum of one year and sometimes to five years. During this time, the Añejo is impregnated with the oak’s properties, which leaves its color dark amber and confers a medium wooden flavor, thereby becoming a proud competitor in valued spirits, like fine cognac, in international markets.

The first certified organic tequila, 4 Copas Tequila, is producing a limited edition sea turtle bottle in honor of the symposium and sea turtle conservation research. Proceeds will be donated to SeaTurtle.org, a non-profit organization specializing in satellite tracking projects on turtles. Pictures of this bottle and the artwork are below.

Tasted 07/23/08 out of double ball glass. 4 Copas anejo was an amazing experience. I actually prefer their anejo more than their reposado or blanco. And this is coming from a blanco drinker! To me, a very complex and memorable anejo. If I was to stock an anejo in my house, this one would be a candidate.

Aroma: I detected notes of vanilla, caramel, and agave. Actually, in that order.
Initial Taste: On the tip of my tongue, very sweet and almost syrup like. No bitterness.
Body: A very complex body with many flavors. Agave, a sweet vanilla, smoke, and wood.
Finish: I was a bit disappointed, but it was a short finish with a decent alcohol intensity.

4 Copas Anejo NOM 1457 tasted 2/29/08 in Riedel glass. This tequila is one of the top rated anejo's out there for a reason. There's not much more I can say about this exceptional tequila except to add myself to the list of people who thoroughly enjoy it. It's top notch all the way. Full intense agave, just the right amounts of sweetness, blends of vanilla, carmel and smokeyness. Smooth and bold at the same time. Not to be missed.

4 Copas Anejo is hands down one of my top ten favorites, at first I was kinda of stand off-ish because of the whole organic thing, not knowing what it initially entailed, but once I investigated the whole organic tequila subject, I realized how significant this was, I needed to know this for the simple fact that when I first do a tasting on a product, it is important to know what you are up against, knowing it's history and all the facts surrounding it's creation, makes it just that much easier to appreciate the time and efforts put into such a unique Tequila.
I recieved a sample of all three of their Tequilas and wow, was I floored by not only the quality, but by the presentation, the bottle was bottle, and i sampled the Anejo with friends who just happen to own a cigar shop, and by thier own account, they said they have never had a spirit, of tequila, scotch, whiskey,etc. pair so well with a good cigar like 4 Copas Anejo. I'm not a smoker so i can't attest to that, but i do hold their opinion very dearly, I personally loved 4 Copas Anejo, and it's too bad that it doesn't sell in Texas, yet... But, i was glad to get the opportunity to try this organic tequila.
At first glance the bottles smokey appearance reminds me of the Milagro bottles, holding the bottle to light and letting the gold label reflect from back to front really makes the bottle more intruiging, upon opening the bottle and letting it rest for about 3 minutes, you can certainly smell the earthyiness that is seeping from the top, once poured into a reidel glass, the color hypnotizes your eyes, as you dissect the nose,and color of the Anejo, you get that feeling in your jaw that you get when you're about to taste something sour. The initail taste is for a quick second harsh, but quickly goes into a mellow oily vanilla like state, you can certainly taste the smokiness in this anejo,and as you sample the body, the small notes of a buttery,citrus like earthiness quickly appear, and as this Anejo slowly slides down that sensation stays with you,and numbs the throat, a definite plus for me. Tequila 4 Copas is one of the best i have had in awhile, and considering i might not see it around this area for awhile if you have this Anejo readily available in your area, i would definitely appreciate it's value. 4 Copas Anejo is a nice, full-bodied tequila with moderate agave flavor. I enjoy the bold oakiness accompanied by caramel and earth notes. The bottle is nothing to write home about and the price of about $100/750ml is in line with good sipping tequilas.

This is a great tequila for impressing company without breaking out the really good stuff we all keep for ourselves.

4 Copas Anejo NOM 1457 Tasted on 4/30/07 at 10:20pm. 4 Copas anejo cost me about $100 at BevMo. I tasted this tequila in my home and used a Riedel glass for tasting. The bottle is similar to a normal bottle except for a unique design on the back of the bottles which is a man on horseback whose head is an agave plant. 4 Copas ages their anejo for at least one year which causes it to be a dark golden color. Intense aromas of this tequila include earth and floral are followed by moderate notes of fruit, vanilla, spice, caramel, and smoke. In the mouth, the anejo is oily and heavy. While the tequila is sweet and almost syrupy, there is only a minimal hint of bitterness. When examining the flavors of 4 Copas Anejo, first impressions include intense earth and floral accents. On a second sip, I noticed moderate flavors of agave, vanilla, and smoke. When searching for deeper flavors upon tasting the tequila, one can taste mild notes of fruit, wood, caramel, and spice. Unfortunately, this tequila only has a medium duration of flavor but did have a nice numbing alcohol intensity. I awarded 4 Copas Anejo the rating of 90 points out of 100.
