Tequila Review
El Diamante Del Cielo Reposado Tequila
El Diamante Del Cielo Reposado Tequila - Reposado Tequilas are aged in large oak barrels for a minimum of 60 days and no longer than one year. Where as most Tequilas are bottled on the 60th day, Cielo Reposado is bottled on the 364th day - the maximum reposado aging time allowed by Mexican law. This expensive and extended aging process leaves subtle hints of vanilla and spices and creates a smooth, medium to full-bodied spirit great for sipping or that special mixed drink.
Estate bottled, 100% pure blue agave, rich in tradition.

This tequila has no standouts from any aspect, so not the most enjoyable experience. Again, NOM 1472 doesn't seem to work for me. The price varies widely from $40-$50 for the repo, but personally, there are other brands I would rather spend that kind of money on. It does have a very attractive bottle made of heavy glass with a good cork and stopper.

The nose has caramel and oak, with a chemical undertone that was also present in the blanco. In the taste, there is some sweetness, but to go with it, a mixture of caramel and soapiness. A medium weight body, with some dryness from the oak - not a very pleasant mixture of taste and feel. The finish has a medium duration with a balanced burn going down, but a medicinal aftertaste of chemicals and oak continues.

Tasted on 3/7/09 in a Riedel glass at home during a tasting session. I have to say that I prefer strong agave flavor of blanco's, so the extended aging of this Reposado leans more to the Anejo side. This tequila has an excellent Aroma-nose but is overshadowed by a strong inital and finish burn.
I did estimate the price rating since I was able to get this bottle at a discounted rate of $32 as a result of an unfulfilled special order at my local liquor store. If I had to pay full price, I may have had to deduct a couple of points.

this is an extremely good tasting 'sipper'. I have some Paradiso and Cuervo La Reserva . This is half the price and almost as good. You will not be disappointed.
