Tequila Agavales Gold

Agavales Tequila Gold is 100% Blue Agave, and is produced by cooking the Agave in a traditional brick oven, and then it is distilled in a steel distillation column which is a method that produces a consistent flavor.

The Agavales name in Spanish means "The land were the Agave plant is grown", Agavales takes you to the origin of the Agave plant and to the birth of tequila in its wholeness and highest quality.  The history, old traditions and the romance-like quality when caring for the Agave, all attribute in the process when producing this tequila.

I am the bartender in a Mexican restaurant with a vast selection of quality tequilas and we now use Agavales as our house tequila for margaritas. Prior to this was Sauza gold and believe me, this is a HUGE step up. When I first saw the bottle I was certainly thrown off, but don't let it fool you. Luckily we don't have the plastic bottles, but the labels are quite cheap looking. For a 100% agave tequila the price is unbeatable. It is still considered a "gold" tequila, artificially colored and unaged. Its actually palatable by itself, the flavor is decent and considerably smooth, with a very short and hot finish. Throw this one back, don't spend too much time sipping it. Definitely suited for cheap margaritas for those who like to add sweet and sour, etc. Also available in a quite potent 110 proof variety.

This is probably the best 'margarita' tequila I have come across. But then I'm one of those who doesn't see the reason in drowning a top shelf tequila in lime juice and triple sec. We drink a lot of margaritas and have used Cazadores, El Jimador, Hornitos, Muy Especial, Sauza, Jose Cuervo (yuk!), Don Julio, Cabrito and Milagro and we like Agavales the best. About the only bad thing about it is that it comes in a plastic bottle so I always feel a little dirty buying it. But for $20 for a 1.75l bottle of 100% agave tequila, the feeling goes away quickly. I highly recommend this tequila for those making margaritas or other mixed tequila drinks.
