This was my first "premium" anejo, and as I am such a fan of the reposado I was eager to try it.

The agave comes through nicely, and I got definite hints of caramel and wood. Perhaps a bit more wood than I find ideal in a drink, but I suppose that's a common characteristic of the anejos.

A nice long, smooth finish.

Aroma - The smell is simply wonderful. Agave, butterscotch, vanilla and fruit. Maybe the best nose of any tequila out there.

Taste - All of the flavors mix together with the sweetness, fruit and wood with a mild alcohol burn.

Finish - Wonderful taste long after it's gone and SO smooth.

Anyone who wants to sip a tequila, this is the one. It's pricey at around $100 a bottle, but if you're looking for something that is truly great, do yourself a favor and get a bottle of this.

Great introduction to sipping tequila as only the slightest hint of alchohol burn was quickly extinguished by the multitude of flavours and warmth that led to a beautiful smooth finish with a lovely long aftertaste.
Am searching for the perfect tequila and this is a very good start.

I cannot believe the quality and smoothness of this tequila for its price. Paid $99 and it is as good or better than many bottles costing 3x as much. Only downside is it doesn't have the most striking presentation.

Caramel and Vanilla are the two most noticeable smells and flavors. A little fruity, slight hint of the oak, and a silky smooth finish. I mean almost ZERO alcohol burn. A great sipping Tequila. Do yourself a huge favor and DO NOT just shoot this.

I'm hooked for life!

First tried at Morels in Las Vegas, this was an exquisite addition to the evening I did actually said Wow when I first breathed in this gorgeous tequila and said it again after my intial taste. Caramel and vanilla explode into a buttery smooth finish, very little oak(compared to most anejos). Tremendous effort!!!
I purchase a bottle a few weeks ago and opened it on saturday night for some friends it was definately a fan favorite. Price is actually good when I compare to some of the other ultra-premium anejos but the presentation is really average. Better presentation like Cabo Uno for instance and I would gladly shell out an extra 50-100 dollars

The initial taste is smooth and sweet, slight honey flavor, but as you breathe it opens up, but remains smooth throughout and there is a strong vanilla and hazelnut presence in flavor. It has a medium body, in fact it seems a bit light for an anejo. The finish is medium long and leaves a sweet pleasant flavor in one's mouth. No alcohol burn whatsoever.
Hands down one of the smoothest and most unique tasting tequilas, that have ever crossed these lips.
The bottle is ok, but I do not like the plastic screw top. I feel like cork would have done it more justice.
I received this bottle as a gift and even though I cannot see myself spending over $100 for a resposado or an anejo, this tequila definitely deserves your time and attention.

If you like Don Julio's anejo you'll most likely love this as it has a very similar flavor with added smoothness, and a bit more complexity without losing the agave presence. There is a nice nose on this with vanilla, oak, nut, and a touch of cinnamon. A very smooth tequila with a really nice finish.

Also, I couldn't help but think that I kept smelling and tasting a slight cognac presence... I have no idea if this is true, and I've never heard this, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if this spent some time in cognac barrels. I would think that would be something they'd want to let people know as El Tesoro does with Paradiso, but who knows. I could be way off, but after I realized that's what I thought it reminded me of it became more present to me. By the way, being that it reminded me of it, it pales in comparison to Paradiso, but is still an excellent anejo and most definitely worth trying, again, especially if you like Don Julio.

I like the bottle this comes in because it's unique, but it doesn't fit in my cabinet and I hate their caps so that takes presentation down a bit for me.

It has more agave taste then most anejo tequila's and you really do not taste any oak that is common to anejos. If reposados are your favorite type of tequila this is highly recommended because the it is so much smoother then just about any reposado I have tasted but the flavor is similar. The nose has some vanilla to it and that is nice. There is basically no alcohol burn to it.

As Ive stated numerous times, Im a true blanco lover (too much wood taste and I get ill) and its hard to get me away from blancos. Don Julio 1942 does a great job of showing me that not all aged tequilas have to be dominated by the taste of wood. An excellent sipper to be reckoned with!

Aroma: Pleasant wood and cinnamon tones.
Initial taste: a very pleasant agave sweetness. No bitterness.
Body: An oily mouth feel of warm wood, smoke, agave, and slight vanilla.
Finish: Smooth as silk, with no alcohol burn.

It seems to me, that the Don Julio line is one of the most consistent out there. I love their blanco, and I like their repo. Im gonna have to give the anejo a shot. I hope they never lose their consistency.

I purchased Don Julio's 1942 for 99.99 at the local liquor store in Waco, Texas. The presentation was quite elegant with a slender classic bottle, shaded an olive green. The case it came in was nice as well, the only negative was there was no cork, like all Don Julio bottles...I like corks though. The color of the tequila was a beautiful honey shade, and very oily. I was surprised the tequila was not darker, after being aged 3 years. When the Reidel was tipped at a 45 degree angle and back, the oil residue slowly dripped down the side of the glass. The aroma went hand in hand with the taste. I could initially smell hints of cinnamon and spice when I smelled from the bottle. After pouring into a Reidel, more characteristics stood out. Very strong wood and smoke tones, not much alcohol hit my palate while smelling which is a good sign. I was able to also smell hints of vanilla, nuts, and very sweet agave. The initial taste took me by surprise, very potent and sweet agave, followed by a well aged flavor. The taste was much as expected after smelling the aromas...smoke, spice, vanilla, nuts, wood. The only negative here were the oils, I thought the tequila was very oily. This was all followed by wonderful aspects... The length was medium and didnt fade out immediately, the alcohol was balanced and not overpowering, the finish was very complex with a somewhat tingling alcohol burn. I thought the finish was the best part as it was very refreshing. I have not consumed many anejo's in my time period so this was a good one to get my feet wet with. Initially I was disappointed but that went away after a couple drinks. I had high expectations and didnt know what to compare too and I havent tried a comparable tequila. This is a must try for any aficionado out there.

This doesn't taste like most good anejo tequilla. First, it is unusually sweet. Second, it substitutes smoothness for complexity and power. But upon reflection it is delicious and, dare I say, noble.

People may prefer other tequillas. But I doubt anyone who enjoys fine spirits will not enjoy this at least to some degree. There's scarce harshness to be found beyond the alcohol content.

Color golden khaki with lemon chiffon reflections. Legs fragmented with slow oily drop. Spotty finish with constant yet hesitant drops. Agave roots from the bottom rising to an increasingly subtle sweet vanilla top rim. Refreshingly light on first touch with honey oak start, slight pepper middle that fades in taste but not in warmth, through a thick and lasting sweet honey vanilla finish.

Don Julio is very light, and very sweet, with only moderate agave flavor and an incredibly smooth finish. I would go so far as to recommend this as a "starter tequila" for non-tequila lovers (are there such people?) as a way to introduce them to the joy of aged tequilas.

I could talk about the vanilla, caramel, and cinnamon notes, but it's all been said. This is just a very refreshing tequila.

The bottle is attractive but doesn't really catch the eye like some others. And the price is right around what you would expect for a good anejo. It's also available in just about any bar that boasts an "extensive tequila menu" for about $20.

The nose contains a real rich aroma of caramel and toffee, compared to the anejos citrusy notes, once in your mouth you can sense the silky smooth characteristics of agave flavors fruits, and spicey undertones, with a rich smooth sweet finish if oak and and vanilla. Excellent tequila one of my favorites.

I found a bottle available online for $75 plus another $15 for shipping. At 90 Smakers, I had major expectations.
The nose is exceptional. Brilliant honey, vanilla, agave and oak are present. When pouring, I noticed its moderately syrupy body. When sipping, the experience was subtle and smooth, very well balanced. Nothing really stood out...just a light flavor of agave and very light complex notes of oak and vanilla. VERY light. I was surprised at how light the flavor Don Julio went with this special Anejo. It reminded me very much of the regular anjeo by Don Julio, so I went out and got a bottle of Don Julio Anejo at $46 to compare...
(This was interesting...they are VERY similar...the nose on the 1942 was obviously more complex, although they both tasted very similarly...three of us agreed in a blind taste test that the nose is all that separates the two anejos....)
it also reminded me of the award winning Milagro Reposado Reserva...

The finish is beautiful...leaving you with a sweet tone...kinda nice.
Overall, I agree that this is a delightful anjeo, but at 90 bucks a bottle, I'd much rather have the Casa Noble Anejo.
Much love to the tequila drinkers worldwide!

The tequila is a golden color with intense floral and vanilla aromas. A soft mellow entry leads to a sweet syrupy taste, with no bitterness and moderate agave flavor. While there is only moderate agave flavor, the tequila has intense earthy, fruity, floral, vanilla, and caramel flavors. The tequila finishes with a long duration of flavor and a tingly, numbing alcohol finish. Overall, I gave the tequila an A.

The bottle and wood coffin box is what sold me at the beginning, and I couldn't believe I was going to spend $80 on a bottle of tequila. There aren't many anejos like it, and now I feel it is a steal at $100.

I had drunk loads of margaritas and shots. I had bought bottles of Perseverancia and Gran Centenario 100% de agave while in Mexico, and I had enjoyed them all on a casual when I'm in the mood basis. My first taste of DJ 1942 made me feel like I had really never tasted tequila before. The nose has very appealing notes of vanilla and butter. The initial taste has a strong roasted agave flavor with many complex subtle flavors edging around. There is some oak present, but it is not as strong as in most anejos, and perhaps that is what allows the agave to shine through. If I let the tequila roll under my tounge, I get a noticeable smoky flavor. It has a very smooth mouth feel with almost the consistency of honey on the tounge. As I swallow, I get a burst of vapor up my throat into the nasal passages that brings the vanilla and butter back into play. It has a pleasant finish with just enough black pepper to remind you that this is tequila. The bottle is tall with agave leaf shapes formed into it and a bulbous wooden screw cap.

Overall, this is the best tequila I have ever tasted. The price is high at around $100 for a 750 ml bottle, but I would rather have one bottle of Don Julio 1942 than two bottles of most of the $50 premium tequilas I have tasted.
