5150 Tequila Reposado

The brainchild of a winemaker who likes tequila, 5150 has a different twist on aging by resting in re-charred American oak wine barrels.

The nose is not what you'd expect from a typical repo; earth and grass dominate, with caramel in the background. Sweet entry of caramel with a very slight bitterness and raw agave. Medium body with slight oiliness - right in the wheelhouse. A nice finish of medium duration - mostly caramel with some agave lingering as well.

Overall very enjoyable. It's not extremely complex, but not one dimensional either. I think aging in the pre-used wine barrels gives it something unique. Price: in the 30s I like it; in the 40s I like it a little less; I have seen both. I personally kind of like the American flag motif on their bottles - clearly the result of the owner being an American winemaker.

Tasted out of double ball glass. A very good reposado. It leans toward the anejo side which is fine by me. I have to admit that Im not into the American flag bottle.

Aroma: Caramel and earth.
Initial Taste: Upon entry, its nice and sweet with no bitterness.
Body: A nice balance of agave complimented by wood, earth, and spices.
Finish: A semi heated finish of medium duration.

Worth Buying! Very wonderful vanilla aftertaste. Very good aroma.
