Default Re: Online Tasting with Tequila 1921

I had to miss the chat unfortunately.

What age is the 1921 Reposado? They dont mention how many months on the website and is the Reserva Especial considered a Reposado if it is only aged 9 months? Lastly, do they mention why the Reposado and Reserva Especial vary so much in color with only a few months difference in the aging process?

I wish I could have made it by just for a bit, this would have been the first company that I attended the chat and have tried the whole lineup previously. I am quite impressed too...if I could afford to make this a regular tequila around here I would. But I did have a few questions maybe some of yall know the answers too....

Juan said the regular repo is aged 4-6 months in used JD whiskey barrels, and bottled once the flavor is correct. Reuse on the barrels sometimes requires longer aging times.

The reserva, they use new american oak barrels, and reuse 5 times, so on first use they might pull the product at 9 or 10 months, and by the 5th use they might have to leave it in an extra 5 months to get the consistent flavor. It is all about consistency with Juan.

Double the aging between the repo's, and different barrels make the colors quite different.

Thank you for clearing up my curiosity.

My very last question is...by looking at the bottle, can you tell a barrel number? I have an empty 1921 Reposado in front of me and if you look at the "inside" of the label through the glass, I see "13/02/06 LOTE 149"...if I purchase a bottle and the number is different, would the color and taste vary a little bit between the two?

Juan told us that the lote number is what they track and there are better lote's than others. No mention of barrel number.
