Default Tequila Cruise

Hello all
I a newbie to the site, but have a long standing interest in Tequila and things Mexico.
Former NYer and LAer who moved to Baja and married a Mexican girl. Have business interests in Baja, DF, and Yucatan.
Reason for my post is that I own a botanical garden (see www.Las Veredas.com.mx) & nursery in Baja Wine Country north of Ensenada - Valle de Guadalupe, and host various events for the Vendimia Festival, among others, including as a destination for Cruise ship shore excursions for Princess, Carnival, etc. which port at Ensenada on a weekly basis.
We have just been selected to be exclusive host for Tequila Tasting shore tours for the cruise lines beginning in May.
It occurred to me after reading the various posts that something might be done in conjunction with the T-net group and the Cruise lines, ie: a Tequila cruise co-sponsored by the cruise lines, and maybe include some type of certification course as part of it. I can contact CRT and arrange.
If there would be sufficient interest, I can pitch the cruise lines.
Another obvious advantage here would be that participants could each bring back the full 60 liter limit, since its a cruise! Ships sail out of LA/Long Beach and San Diego. Cruise Rates are only $189 to $299 p/p for 3 or 4 day trips.
We are also very close to UABC and maybe could coordinate with them as well.
Will be happy to pursue it if there is sufficient interest.
Daniel

That sounds like a good idea. I've been thinking about going on a cruise, let us know if this goes through.

We where just on a cruise and talked about how a tequila cruise would be fun.

Phillip Soto Mares (Ex president of the La Academia Mexicana Del Tequila,Usa) might be interested in the educational componet of the cruise. ?

A stumbling block may be getting quality Tequilas onboard for Tastings, evaluation and training. The best at the bars on our cruise was 1800 and Patron.

But we would all be for it.

If we all brought 1 or 2 bottles of our favs, we could hold our own private tastings somewhere on the ship.

I have done a handful of cruises and for the ones I have sailed on, they do not allow you to bring any liquor on board and if you buy it in port, they hold onto it until you get off at the final destination.

I have always packed a bottle or two in my carry on or luggage and hadn't had any problem's, that is until my last trip. Going though security, they caught the bottle.......fortunately the screener was a tequila drinker and let it slide.

It would be a bummer for everyone to bring a few bottles and then have them confiscated....probably need to do some research on how to get the bottles on board.
