I live about 45 minutes from Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos...
There is a Mexican Tequila Bar/Restaurant and it is in a casino you can imagine they have some interesting things on the menu to get your money. The following description is what they call "High Rollers Margharita" My wife loves a good margharita, but is this bordering on silly, or worth a try... Don Julio Real, Grand Marnier Cinquantenaire, lime juice, agave nectar prepared tableside... Thoughts? Price tag of 75 dollars. Kind of strikes me as something for people with money to burn, but maybe it's worth it. |

Sorry. I guess my point would be to not use Real in a margarita. High end tequilas are high end because they taste good. On their own.
Real is an extra-aged tequila, which means that it has a very woody flavor, many times more predominant than the agave. There are many secondary flavors and aromas to be found in aged tequilas as well. When you mix it with lime juice and Grand Marnier, you are going to mask a lot of what makes Real so special. You will also find that most of us on this board prefer a simpler, more pure margarita. Leave the Grand Marnier on the shelf and add some agave nectar for sweetness. That "high roller" margarita sounds more like a gimmick than something that would actually taste great. Although I can't imagine it tasting particularly bad either. My "high roller" margarita is 4 Copas Blanco, agave nectar, and fresh lime juice. Crisp, pure, and tastes like AGAVE - not a sprite that has gone flat. If you do decide to order one, please let us know what you think. |

I bet its similar to most margaritas that have anejo tequilas. Is the slight difference in taste really worth the extra 50.00 it would cost to have a margarita with Real? I dont really think so but have never had something that high end...I wouldnt put such an expensive tequila in my margarita though. I have made some with DJ 1942 and really couldnt taste much of a difference between that and the anejo once mixed up...
But if you have the money of a high roller, by all means go try it out. I suppose if I could fit that in my budget then I might try it as well. I dont like too much artificial sweeteness. The drink comes out more like Kool-Aid when you use Grand Mariner or Triple Sec. I prefer to find tequilas that are naturally sweet themselves and they make the best margaritas IMHO. Don Valente Blanco or Repo, Jose Cuervo RDLF Platino, Rey De Copas Reposado all made the best margaritas. So I prefer one of those tequilas + Fresh Lime Juice + Agave Nectar + and 1 oz of fresh squeezed oranges for flavoring if you want some. I've never thought about using a bottle similar to the expense of DJ Real tequila for mixing purposes...I dont even drink that stuff by itself. If you do try it let us know what you think!

Blanco's are best for Margs, some Repos and very few Anejos. The one Anejo that I had in a Marg that tasted good was Tapatio. But always 100%.
I would be interested to see how it tastes but I would rather buy a regular good 100% tequila Marg for 10-12 bucks and then take the left over money and buy a good bottle for home. |

I'm not real big on margaritas....just rather have the tequila, but I bet they sell there fair share of the High Roller Margaritas.
Think about all the people that win big and go over the top with there winnings, or the high priced call girl that is sitting at the bar and they guy asks if he can buy her a drink and she asks for the for the HR Maragarita...the guy thinks he is just buying a regular margarita.....sucker
