I just arrived home from a weekend during which shots of 1942, Partida, and Gran Centenario Anejo were passed around on platters 12 at a time. Sadly, my party favor ended up being 2 Costco sized jugs of Cuervo Gold. I'd like to make a chile infused tequila for some holiday gifts but I've read that only silver tequila works for this. Anyone have experience with this?

Return them to Costco and say that they were bought in error.
Take the credit and buy some 100% Agave tequila. I had to return a bottle of Cabo Wabo Reposado received as a gift and it was accepted.

If you can't return it, the only sensible thing to do with gold is to give it away or pour it down the drain. I made the mistake of getting a classic (margaritaville gold) margarita at Cheeseburger in Paradise today and have had a headache all day. 100% agave or nothing at all is the only way to go.

Step one... Run it through a Britta filter a couple of times to get rid of some of the impurities.
Step two... Infuse it as you have suggested. While it may not be the best for drinking, it would be good to use in cooking (just don't use too much as Tequila in cooking can have an overwhelming taste).
