Their are some excellent tequilas that are also collectibles to try, but anything over 500-1000.00; you are paying for the bottle and limited production. Not hardly any tequila is actually worth over about 200.00.
I am confused, are these not your words?

Quite the contradiction from the words quoted from reply #3 of this thread. It was that reply that I didn't think was accurate and got me going.
Has me confused as well -- perhaps a clarification?

I had to find that reply as well...

I think the only clarification I had was it looked like I was getting upset trying to make a point and tried to just be simple with a sentance. But looking back it was a rude response, especially to the collectors...I would like you to take a second and re-read my last response and realize I wasnt trying to bash anyones collection of tequila at all.

But to explain what I meant....

"Most collections are garbage compared to what you pay." Its a very rude and somewhat true statement. Just like with my sports memorabilia collection, I payed enormous amounts of money to complete sets and what not...I would never receive that value back from that. I suppose the collection keeps me happy and my mind on spending money on productive things so I dont see anything wrong with it. I never saw anything wrong with what yall do either...the fact still stands that I prefer consuming my tequila. My opinion still stands that its not worth the cash to spend a couple thousand on 750ml of tequila for consuming purposes.

I'm sorry I missed out on finding that reply. It was meant to debate with you some ALF_Melmac....I was trying to make points in the beginning of the thread and I felt like my opinions werent being considered for a moment. But I wasnt considering yours either so I cant complain....I apologize once again if yall thought I was bashing the idea of collecting tequila.

And ALF_Melmac....I am not contradicting myself, these are still my opinions...I'm just trying to put some meaning behind them so I dont look like I'm just trying to argue and cause problems within the forum. You do realize that correct? If at any time your offended please just PM me to sort out our differences...I think I asked that too at the beginning of this thread.

For me collecting tequila started with my wife and I some years back when we knew not a hole lot about tequila, we had tasted some of the more common names out there and gradually started venturing out to others. At first it was about buying pretty much anything on the liquor store shelf that I did not currently have not going to over board on prices, then it got to the point that I started buying bottles with price tags over $100.00 and as it got harder to find bottles I did not have in my collection I noticed that the prices on those bottles was getting higher and higher and before I new it I was buying bottle for $1000.00+ and let me tell you it is hard to see that bottle you want/ need for your collection and see the heavy price tag you need to pay to get it. As in all things there are always at lest two versions to a story and I think the same applies to Collections (tequila or other) for me it did star as a drinking Hobie which then grew in to more of an investment type collection, although I don't foresee my self ever selling it, one should never say never. I still continue to buy for boath drinking and collecting pleasure and I am always on the look out for that one elusive $1000.00+ bottle.

I don't really consider myself a collector. I enjoy drinking tequila, learning more about tequila and sharing thoughts and opinions about it. I do not think I have ever purchased a bottle just to hold for a potential increase sometime in the future. I buy different bottles to see what variations and differences exist between the different distillers. When I find something I like I try to make sure I have a "backup" bottle in case I finish the current open one and want just that one sip more. I have a few more expensive bottles - Chinaco Negro, Don Julio Real, Gran Patron Platinum, Gran Centenario Leyenda, El Tesoro 30th Anniversary, etc. but I find it a lot more difficult to buy a bottle priced above $150 because of the price tag. I would much rather enjoy a $30 bottle of Fina Estampa or a $60 bottle of Casa Noble Reposado - but that is me. Collecting is a passion that if you have it and can afford it that's great. I could probably afford it, but don't have enough passion to overcome the passion to drink it.

is there a seperate thread on evaporation? I just read every comment on the 3 pages of this thread & i'm a bit bewildered on why everyone was talking solely about value and not about how the bottle will hold up down the road. I'd like to hear everyones tips on fighting ullage too. I know how you should properly store alocohol but that doesn't always fit into a collector's style. Does anyone have any worst case scenario pics of what to expect? I just began collecting last year & i fear the worst, however i can't find any pictures where bottle collecting went wrong. I'd like to know what to expect in 10, 20 yrs...
