Default Los Abuelos --> Fortaleza

For those of you who hadn't heard about the name change of Tequila Los Abuelos... you might want to grab a bottle of Los Abuelos if you are collecting. Same juice, different name.

Tequila Los Abuelos announces their new label name, FORTALEZA, for the United States market. Tequila FORTALEZA, or Fortitude, is the same excellent Los Abuelos tequila, made with the artisan traditions handed down for five generations, is now named after their historic distillery, "Destileria La Fortaleza". The new label name will be available in the USA in late 2007. This product will be available in Mexico only under the label name "Los Abuelos."

You can still get it in Mexico under the old name. There is one shipment of Fortaleza that will be a true collectors item, but I bet my tootsie roll they are all gone now. Wish I coulda got one.

I went to a tasting of Fortaleza in San Diego in February and thought it was quite tasty. They handed out a list of their retail distributors and after trying three of them finally found one that had some. It was still labeled as Los Abuelos, but except for the name the label looks the same and the tequila tastes the same. If the collectors item would be the first shipment it may not be too late as most retailers would likely clear the Los Abuelos off their shelves before the Fortaleza. They only had reposado and anejo so I am still looking for the blanco. I understand Ramirez carries it in the LA area and the Wine Merchant should have it it OC.

Ramirez only has the blanco under the Fortaleza label, I believe... at least that's what I got last time I went in there.
