Default Unopened bottle of Meritage de Paloma Porfidio, Edicion Milenium

Hello everyone. I have an unopened bottle of Meritage de Paloma Porfidio, Edicion Milenium, with the glass cactus stopper (that appears to have gold flakes in the glass), a numbered Certificate of Authenticity hand signed by Paloma Porfidio, and the ceramic case that it came in. It is number 288 of 1000. Does anyone know what this is worth? Would anyone like to buy it?

I bought this bottle at the Porfidio Distillery on December 18, 2001 when I was on a seven day cruise to Mexico (I kept the certificate with my cruise stuff, and I highly recommend taking the Tequila tasting excursion if your cruise ship offers it).

Everything in the set is absolutely pristine (not one chip or scratch) except for the certificate that has a couple of minor wrinkles in the upper right corner. It’s not creased. It looks like after Paloma Porfidio signed it, he grabbed it from the top right corner to get to the next certificate underneath. The certificate is on really nice paper that shows a grid pattern when you hold it up to the light. Our tour guide told us that these bottles sold for $2,000 each in honor of the Millennium and that the bars in Las Vegas were charging $200 per shot.

Here are some pictures (it only let me upload 5). Please feel free to let me know what you think. If there are any more details that I can provide to help evaluate the value, then I am happy to provide them.

Thanks for your time,

John

P.S. The only other bottle that I have been able to locate on the internet was bottle number 352 at Don Rafael. I get the feeling that we may have the last two unopened bottles left, and they don’t have the certificate, so I may have the last unopened bottle with the certificate (makes me want to have a big party and drink it, but I think I’ll hold off for now).

WOW what a great bottle you have. I have collected just about everything Porfidio made and never had this bottle.

My guess is it is worth every bit of $2,000 or more....I am sure you will find a buyer.....good luck

This Porfidio is definately a hard bottle to come by. I searched high and low before I got mine #258. Some time ago there was one on ebay that went for about $1500.00. Unfortunately during these economic times it is hard to say if it would sell for that amount.

VERY NICE BOTTLE indeed! If you are intent on selling it, I would give it a try on Ebay and see what happens however, like carsausage mentioned, it may be tough to get it's true value due to the economic climate. You never know.....if a Porfidio collector with deep pockets truely needs that type of bottle to complete a collection, you may get close to it's value! If not what the hell....open it up and have a party! I am sure you would have no problem finding some guests to assist you....especially here on T.net! Good luck!

If you decide to drink it, be forwarned it is a "Mixto" not 100% agave. So it could lead to a nasty hangover.

Does that mean it's all about the bottle - not the juice?

In my opinion and I assume many others on the forum will agree with me. There is no tequila worth $1000.00/1lt. So I would have to say yes, it is about the bottle. It was a limited release of only 1000 and it did come in a beautiful blue ceramic box and another unique fact is that it is mixto but not any mixto 49% apple.

Now on the collectors point of view (which I am) there are several bottles out there that are valued at or above $1000.00/lt but that is only because of its rareness, limited amounts and collectivity and not because of its content.

Thanks for the response; if you drop the price in the future that you are asking for the bottle - let me know.
