Some of you have probably already noticed this, but for what it's worth, alcapone-jr is currently selling one on eBay for $4,200.

(Rest assured that I am in no way affiliated with alcapone-jr)

Hello everyone. Thanks again for all of your input. I have decided to post this on eBay in case anyone is interested in following the auction. Wish me luck.

Good luck indeed. No offense but with only (1) feedback you are going to have a hard time getting anywhere close to your asking price much less selling it. Would you give $4000 to someone who has only sold one item on Ebay?

Alcapone-jr is offering free shipping though for the asking price.

So what are the odds of 2 of these bottles showing up on Ebay on the same day?

In years past I would have said "no way." And probably the majority of people would still feel that way. But with eBay recently becoming so buyer-friendly, it doesn't personally strike me as the "gamble" that it once might have been. They're really pushing their buyer protection program, as anyone who's visited the site over the last couple of months can attest.

A couple of weeks ago a seller with 0 feedback was able to sell (successfully, I assume) the Cuervo 250 Aniversario for $1500. Obviously $1500 and $4000 are very different, but the buyer's mindset is likely the same.

One unsolicited suggestion, OP? Add more pictures. They give the buyer confidence that you're not using stock or "appropriated" photos, and it just seems more suitable given the asking price of the item. Best of luck.

Thumbs down

Al Capone's auctions are hilarious, everything is a "Rare - Discontinued - Classic".

He has a square bottle of Porfidio Blanco listed as "Discontinued - Classic", and it is the new offering from Porfidio which is only available in Mexico.

That's a good racket. Pay $25, sell for $170. I wonder how many poor suckers have fallen for that one.

Sometimes, like in the case of the Meritage, his descriptions are pretty much accurate.

But yeah, for the most part the words and phrases he uses are gross exaggerations. rchaptini is the same way, as has been discussed here previously.

As always, caveat emptor, Google is your friend, etc.

It all comes down to what someone is willing to pay....bottom line

I have a large collection of bottles and I am done collecting, so I am selling off some bottles from time to time. I look at Ebay to see what is being auctioned and what the prices are. I list my bottles for far less than what the "Regulars" list there bottles for and I provide a basic description....I figure the buyer already knows what they are looking at or will ask a question. I might sell one bottle out of 10 and it is usually after the auction is done. The real collectors are savvy and knowledgeable and want a deal.....I find it hard to believe that people are dropping big money on bottles, if they are not knowledgeable and 100% comfortable buying from someone they don't know.

My guess, is that the "Regulars" selling bottles on Ebay, most likely sell the bottles not through the auction, but afterward for a much different price.

Living in WA state where the sale of liquor is controlled by the state, Ebay is an avenue for me to obtain bottles that I might have no other access to. The times I HAVE bought from the sellers mentioned was because I was comfortable with the price for the bottle being offered and knew that the item was or appeared to be legit.

As far as people dropping big money the sellers I find irritating on Ebay (where everything is rare and collectible) are the mini bottle sellers who think that not only are you going to pay $20 for a mini "collectible" Corzo Silver but pay $9 to ship. Give me a effen break $25-30 dollars for a 50ml bottle? Now I know where bars and restaurants get their price lists from.

Drop me a line the next time you have some extra bottles to get rid of, I'll save you the hassle of dealing with Ebay ;-)
